No this is where they bring the Camaro to cut the top off, you can see the car in the background before they cut the top off, and after they cut the top off is pictured up front.

The automated process of removing the top is amazing, and top secret!

Okay, guys. I posted a sarcastic and what I thought/think was a funny comment above about this. But you're not gonna believe this. Today, I went to visit the upholstery shop that's going to replace my top. They've done 16 of them to-date for the rub marks and told me all about the "retrofit" new top that will be put on mine and why it's better than the old top. Anyhow, the guy was great and been doing it for 15yrs. He then begins telling me how the Vert starts off as a hardtop and goes out to a custom shop to be converted to a vert!!

I couldn't believe it. Someone here also posted that this technique has been done in the past and I did see the photo of the assembly line. So maybe this guys i wrong too about our Gen and just knows of others which did do this.

Yeah for anyone thats been dealing with convertibles for any length of time, its understandable that they would assume that. It wasn't that long ago that most convertibles did leave the factory as partially finished hardtops and were converted by a 3rd party. By the late 60s, convertibles were viewed as dangerous and really weren't selling very well anymore, and due to the expense of engineering them auto manufacturers pretty much got out of it completely. Companies like ASC took over and filled the gap for the next 25 years or so. Same type of deal as Limo's and hearses, cheaper for a coachbuilder to finish them than the OEM

I thought my dealer was bad, when he only put 5 qts of oil in at a "free service".....or when he claimed my pristine car was "abused"........or when they asked why I had put after-market wheels on.

Are you going to buy a Z/28 Vert?

Sales people sell, that's their job. They aren't primarily an enthusiast. That's our thing. Don't expect a sales person to be something they rarely are (an enthusiast) and you won't be disappointed. If you're crazy about a car, don't expect someone else to do the research on it, because when its all said and done, you're the one who's going to drive it and live with your decision. The salesman who I placed my order with was a great guy and a pleasure to do business with, but he freely admitted that I knew more about my Camaro than he could tell me. With the internet and forums like this, there's plenty of info out there to do your due diligence on a purchase like this. And Haynes was doing the perfect thing that these forums are for; he was told something that didn't sound right to him, so he asked. Don't give someone a hard time for asking. His gut instinct was correct and if he can't ask here then where can someone check out stuff. You don't know what you don't know until you ask.
