ZZ Motorsports / Vector Motorsports - LS3 Build

ZZ Motorsports is finally beginning tuning, a cam install, and a CAI install this week. We will also have the 160 thermostat from SLP installed, a ported Throttle Body, and will be porting the stock intake manifold.

Vector Motorsports just outside Detroit, Michigan will be doing the installation and tuning!!

So we wanted to provide you all with some updates as the process goes along.

I will coninue to update this first post with new info and pictures so please check back often!!! I should have plenty of pictures and dyno graphs for everybody at the end of this week!!!

Friday June 12th:

We left the car at Vector Motorsports in Detroit Michigan (Sorry about the Red Wings !! GO PENS!!)to be base-lined and tuned for the ARH headers that we installed earlier. These guys are all top-notch and there work is impeccable. I trust them with my car and I would recommend them to anybody looking for a quality shop with great prices, and kind people.

Vector uses a Mustang Dyno so the numbers will always seem lower, but I do plan to get dynojet numbers in the future (Mustang Dyno will be around 8% lower than Dynojet).

The first base-line run produced 379 RWHP with no tuning, just the header system.
Once tuned for the Long-tubes we made 391.6 RWHP and 381.1 RWTQ, but ran into problems due to cheap gas we had put in on the long trip there!!!
FYI Valero's 93 Octane SUCKS!

...and remember for now it has cheap gas...which we will be replacing before the next run.

Monday June 15th:

The real Work has begun.
You can see in this engine photo, that the front of the motor is disassembled, and the heads are also just about finished. It is time for the cam and springs!!!

Tuesday June 16th:

The engine is all buttoned up, and will be running this afternoon!! One thing which you can see in the above pictures, and which was replaced....is that our cars have the OLD style chain tensioner! If you get into a cam swap, you MUST change that piece! Cam swaps done on the G8 w/o changing that piece have nearly a 50% fail rate...and for 20 bucks, you are good to go. Just a heads up to anybody who wants to do it the right way.

I hope to get some pictures up for you all this evening...Also still working on the exhaust upgrade, GM screwed us with these goofy mufflers.

The stage II cam is installed, and the car is running. It was taken for a brief test-drive and it idles and drove extremely well. Way to go guys at Vector Motorsports !!

Video of the cam at idle....this is still with the factory mufflers, not fully tuned, just enough to idle, and test drive to make sure all is working properly.

Wednesday June 17th:

After a slight delay due to shipping....The new LS3 throttle Body arrived from Jantzer Performance, and the new Cold Air Intake also arrived.

They are both on the car right now, and are being tested.

We have also decided to move ahead and alter the exhaust to a full 3 inch system with new mufflers. The final choice of mufflers will not be made until we get under the car, and see what fits best and what sounds best...we even have a couple resonators on standby if we need to get rid of some "raspy" sounds.

Also going to be testing the prototype Roto-Fab intake....should be awesome, and we will see these hit the market in a few weeks!!

As of Friday the 19th....

The car has made it home. I am working on putting all of the info/pics/videos together so that everybody can enjoy this.
The car is amazing ,and Vector Motorsports made it happen.

The car got 23.6 MPG on the 5 hour ride home, it sounded amazing, and is noticeably more powerful across the powerband...

More info etc... to come ASAP!!! You will not be disappointed

Final power numbers after tuning where 391.6 RWHP. and 381.1 RWTQ.
The gas in the car dosen't seem to be working in our favor, but this problem will be corrected before final tuning.

The cam is custom spec by Vector Motorsports. I am sure Steve from Vector could chime in with some more info!!! It is slightly more aggressive than they use in the their G8 builds...but will be very streetable, and still make a good power increase. It also is getting upgraded pushrods and springs to go with it.

This is entirely off-topic, but I couldn't resist while looking into the engine bay at that angle... where the hell is the Camaro's horn?

Think I missed something, what all has been done to the car from stock to present?

Headers, cat-back, cam, valves, valve springs, tensioner, ported throttle body, intake and anything else?
