New member, first post!
Hi everyone! This is my first post although I have been lurking on here for almost a year now. I have been actively reading pretty much everything about the Camaro and I know you are all very knowledgeable. I am 23 and just graduated from college last year with a degree in History and I have my teaching certification in social studies. The teaching market is very limited right now (especially here in NY) so I've mostly been looking for bridge jobs until the career job comes along. With my employment situation about ready to change, I should be in a better financial situation to go for a Camaro.
I have a 2006 Mazda3 sedan, great car with almost zero issues (only thing that went was door lock mechanism, replaced under warranty). It has almost 80,000 miles. Nothing wrong with the car and I love it, but I've been looking for a change and something more exciting. I'm looking at ordering a 2012 - I know deals are out there on the 2011s right now but I like the idea of the 2012 changes (better steering wheel, lock buttons on doors, different dash design, backup camera option etc - see I've done research!!). A friend of my dad's is a sales manager at a Chevrolet dealership about an hour from home so I am going to try to deal with him. My first car buying experience was rather abnormal; I contacted a dealership in Rhode Island because they had the color I wanted and we took the ferry over from Long Island; it was maybe a 4 hour trip one way but I got what I wanted. The way I see it- a car is a huge purchase, get what you really want! I was 18 at the time and my parents co-signed for me. Hopefully now I can get a decent deal under my own name. I'm looking at getting a V6 (I don't have the need for a V8, I've driven both numerous times now and I have no issue with the V6 although the V8 is awesome. Remember I'm coming from 145 hp, lol!!). Regular gas and marginally better gas mileage makes a big difference for me. I am looking for a 2LT non RS, but I will settle for a 1LT if I have to. Color options are going to be a BIG decision!! I originally wanted black with cyber gray stripes but now I am thinking white with orange or black stripes- I don't know!! I am looking forward to learning more from you guys. I have to be honest; my family has traditionally driven imports over the years (mainly Honda and Mazda), and I'd be one of the first to go American in a few years. So I need to be honest and say I've been a little concerned with Chevy's reliability- I really need a reliable car to get to and from work. But I know alot of the kinks are worked out on the Camaros (I've read alot of your posts on here regarding reliability) and any car can have problems. Yes, the car would be my daily driver, so no RS package for me as I need all-season tires. I know there are more practical cars out there but I've loved the Camaro ever since I first saw the concept back in I believe 06 or 07. I remember being upset in 2002 when Chevy discontinued the Camaro because it's a legend. And we have Camaro blood in my family- my mom had a 1978 Camaro LT in white that she absolutely loved. Plus I know a muscle car is a rite of passage for everyone in my age group! Everyone I talk to had a muscle car in their 20s. I am excited to finally get my own. Thanks for reading and sorry for the long post!! Looking forward to meeting you all. |

Im 23 and just graduated college as well. And here in Michigan the economy absolutly sucks so I know what you're talking about. You will definitly learn a lot from this forum and actually know more than the dealer and the sales/service people if you have an open mind and read and then apply it to the actual car, when you get it LOL. I had an issue with my bluetooth, did some research on the issue and took it to the dealer and told them what the problem was and then how to fix it and they looked at me like I was stupid. An hour later and with the fix that I told them was needed, they thought I was a genius hahaha. None the less, welcome to the site and I hope you get your Camaro soon! And just wait til you get it, the modding itch is like the itch from crack rocks, you just can't stop! hahahah

Jason, Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's and wive's here don't care....and take it easy.
oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!!

Good Choice in Vehicles!! I have only had mine for a month and a half, and I feel very safe in it. I have to drive around my 3 1/2 yr old son with me everywhere I go and I don't feel like it's an unreliable car at all. Handles rather nicely and I have a V6, and love her!!! She is awesome!! I'm the same as you, no need for a V8 for me mainly cuz there is a child in the back and the V8 is too tempting to not go ballz to the wallz in!! I got to drive a V8 for a week and I had a hard time keeping my foot of the accelerator, so yeah!! I hope everything works out for you, have fun, be careful, and WELCOME TO C5 THE BEST FAMILY YOU NEVER KNEW!!!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! It makes me feel at home. I won't be one of those people who posts once and never posts again, I'll be an active member! I am kinda long winded though so I apologize for that!
