It wont take much to get the V6 over those others.

From another forum but discussed here somewhere I think:

D3 Concepts took a CTS 3.6L Di (always remember that a average loss in HP is 15% from Flywheel to Rear Wheels... hence a 304HP engine divided by 1.15= 264HP)

Baseline run: vehicle produced 263.0 rwhp and 241.7 lbs/tq.
Adding the new Corsa Exhaust power jumped to 281.1 rwhp and 255.3 lbs/tq. for an increase of 18.1 rwhp and 13.6 lbs/tq

Added their intake system and power jumped to 294.2 rwhp and 261.3 lbs/tq for an increase of 13.1 rwhp and 6.0 lbs/tq. Total gain in power was 31.2 rwhp and 19.6 lbs/tq. from just an intake and exhaust.

MEANING: That they took a 304HP (at the Fly) 3.6LDi and boosted it to 340HP with the Exhaust and Intake MOD....

I went with the v-6 myself,Honestly i was concerned about the fuel economy, and the fact that my new Camaro would be a daily driver. If i would have bought a 1SS,I would have to store it in the winter time and have to buy a winter car,and have to pay$ to store my 1SS for at least 4 months(I live in Michigan)

I opted to lease my new Camaro...$7,000 down 48 month term,12,000 miles a year($28,000 MSRP) at $267 a month,$540.00 6 month insurance.I am curently driving a 2007 Trailblazer(what was i thinking?)4.2 liter I-6 engine,it averages 16 mpg,and worse in stop and go driving,so you could say i'm fed up with poor fuel economy, and giving more of my hard earned money to the Arab's overseasand with gas prices begining to go up again...well i think i made the right choice.

Besides,304 hp is nothing to be ashamed of,yeah it doesn't have that v-8 growl, but i can live with that, along with the fact that i can use 87 octane for the v-6 as opposed to the 89 octane for the 1SS.(20 cents more a gallon)

As far as looks are concerned,I got the RS package with the 20" polished wheels,so it will look like an SS with the exception of the front fascia.I don't have a big Ego,so i'm content with what i have chosen

Now,If i had a daily driver(FWD)and it was paid for,and had my own garage(I don't)then i would go for a 1SS,without question!I think it all depends on your circumstances and what you have to work with.

Have you thought about Leasing? Before i ordered my 1LT i got a price quote on a bare-bones 1SS w/auto with $7,000 down,48 month,12,000 miles a year, and it was only $317 a month. The residual value was higher on a 1SS w/auto,which translates to a cheaper payment. You still have the option to purchase the car at the end of the lease for alot lower payment,or just re-finance it.

here is a link to a paymnt/lease calculator that will help you figure out what a payment vs lease will look like http://www.automotive.com/2010/12/ch...ase/index.html

rays,

Are you telling me that intake and exhaust added to a v-6 added almost 40 hp?

wow! Does hp added through air induction and exhaust actually get to the wheels??? I always looked upon those mods as something people do because they are cheap to do, make the car sound amazing, only increase performance on paper.

Am I wrong?

Great thread. So many well thought out opinions on this topic. I will say this though they just such an amazing job with this car people struggle even with the engine size as both are awsome imo. There was nothing to talk about in the 80's when i bought my z28. That v6 just plain sucked. It wouldnt have mattered what options it had i would have hated it. These are different times the v6 is more powerful then the 389 in the 69 camaro and blows away my 85 z28 just to put things in perspective.

Thats what they are telling me. It was done on the Cadillac CTS but its the same engine. I'd expect the same numbers.

"Total gain in power was 31.2 rwhp and 19.6 lbs/tq. from just an intake and exhaust."

Direct Injection is cool.

the v6 is an AMAZING car. everyone thinks its a v8! but the fact of the matter is, the v6 has more than enough power..and when it all boils down, ITS A NEW CAMARO!

here are some quotes from random people;

"holy shit thats a new camaro"

"mom look its the transformer!"

"wow that is the sexiest car ive ever seen"

"doesn't that cost like 50k?"

"did he really turn on the car automatically?"

keep in mind everywhere i go there are some people taking pictures and when your on the road everyone stares. doesnt matter how old or young you are, your going to notice it. good luck with your choice. im happy with mine!

I got the v6 and have no regrets. I am very happy with the car. It's like a celeberty everywhere I go pple talk about it and take pics. The v6 has plenty of power and great fuel economy and cheaper insurance. Not to mention a cheaper MSRP.

The lure of a high tech, modern motor - coupled with a fairly responsive chassis was what did it for me. The camaro is more sport coupe than pony car now, needs the usability to back it up.

All the power in the world doesn't do you much good sitting in traffic -- and unfortunately I do that :(

The 6 is going to be a fairly responsive motor to mods, but if raw power output is the end goal - dollar for dollar the V8 isn't going to be beat. It's all about what you want out of the car. Not to say that simple stuff, like the cai and exhaust shouldn't be done in order to close the gap with other sports coupes in the range.

To each their own, as long as they enjoy what they drive.

Well, I like the other stuff on the v8. The Brembo brakes, and sport tuned suspension. The v8 probably takes turns better, corners etc... wouldn;t you say?

The SS Chassis is set up to be a better handling car. It has a firmer ride as a result than Number 3 (1LT) and sure stops better with the Brembo brake upgrade.

But if you compare the V6 Mustang and a V6 Challenger it isn't even close. Camaro wins easily. What some of you want to do is say "anything in the price range is a competitor", and from the customer POV, that's still a fair comparison. But you have to buy a WRX? Mazda Speed?...keep in mind the Cobalt SS Turbo gives these cars a good run for their money all day long. So if you want to pull these 4 cylinder boosted cars in to compare to a much larger V6 car then you have to include the Cobalt SS which, if I am not mistaken is also faster to 60 than the V6 Camaro.

What really amazed me up was looking at the Subaru and Mazda websites (and yes a Speed3 and WRX are 23,000 to 25,000) I was shocked to see that the Fuel Economy of the Mazda was only 26 and the WRX was 25 Highway. As you all know, the Camaro V6 will do 29.

So, maybe throw that into this conversation as you make the comparison.
