2nd gear shift grinding after Hurst shifter install

I installed my Hurst shifter...and all of a sudden got a bad grind when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. But it only happens when I'm getting on it, and shift at higher RPM's. If I granny shift, it doesn't happen. If I try a really hard and fast shift...its really bad.

Never experienced this with the stock shifter. The car has only 3400 miles on it.

I've read a few threads here with people having the same thing happen. But I didn't see any concrete resolution to the issue. Did anyone ever discover the issue here?

I love my Hurst shifter...but I may have to go back to stock.

The 2010's had an early style synchro in 2nd gear on the tr6060. it causes grinding when up and downshifting because its thin it dost always go down even. the fix is a synchro from a newer car. Mine was minimal but the Hurst sifter made it more noticeable fr sure

I have a 2013 with the non-factory Hurst shifter. Every so often I have this same issue. 90% of the time I can shift it as fast as possible and the other 10% it sounds like I'm about to blow up my synchro.

push the clutch in faster I still cant see why anyone would go aftermarket the stock shifter isn't at all a long throw. I actually love it.

I have thought about installing the factory shifter to see if that fixes the problem.

Yeah I'm thinking about going back to stock too. I never had a problem grinding on fast aggressive shifts before I put in the Hurst. I did the Hurst more out of nostalgia and "cool" factor than I did for the short throw. As mentioned, the stock shifter isn't exactly the 12" throws that the old 60's cars sometimes had.

Kind of makes me wonder how Hurst could leave this problem hang out there. Camaro and Hurst shifters are blood brothers and belong together.

I wonder if the Hurst shifter raises the linkage connection point a bit higher to achieve that shorter throw? And second gear does not like that. My only theory as of now. I can power shift all the other gears and never get a grind.

Try shifting without taking your foot all the way off the gas. I have recently discovered that mine doesn't grind when I leave my foot down and keep the RPMs up.

An MGW shifter wont fix this issue, the only fix is a new synchro.

I've tried different things to get rid of this issue. I have amsoil aft in the tranny which helped smoother shifts but doesn't cure the grind. I also have a separate reservoir and that helped a lil bit but still is present just not as bad. I recently replaced my clutch with a mcleod twin disc and a new oem slave with billet bearing support and i can say the issue is about 90% gone ill do still have a occasional grind if i really rev the piss out of first into second gear. I guess the synchros is the only way to completely get rid of it.

Don't discount the no-lift shift. You don't have to leave your right foot all the way down if you don't want to, but I haven't had a single missed gear since I started shifting that way. Seriously, give it a try and see if it works.

You know, I performed this and it fixed A LOT of the shifting issues I had when the car had low miles.

There may be all kinds of break-in sediment in the lines. I'm guessing your stock fluid is JET BLACK. Perform this probably twice with two 32oz bottles of DOT4 brake fluid and you should see an improvement.

The next step is to swap out the stock fluid with Redline D4. That's on my list.

Trans needs to warm up...Just make a conscious effort if you're slamming in to second before everything is up to operating temp; You have gauges right in front of the Hurst, don't you?
