2011 - 3rd annual Ohio fall folliage cruise
SATURDAY, October 22, 2011
We will be traveling through west/central Ohio on a Caves, Caverns and Castles ATTENDEES: jrhaus76 - 2 wwddnnone - 3 BVaughan77 - 2 2L82RUN - 1 Darth Emma - 1 Jaylin - 1 BumblebeeAmigo - 1 jmat - 1 Tantalizer43 - 2 EarliestMemory - 3 heinzD01 - 1 Jamie Mac - 5 LadyinBlue - 2 cntryman77 - 2 GC-Camaro - 3 Drew10 - 1 BlueDragonVT - 1 SilverIceman - 1 rachykells - 2 UPDATE from wwddnnone: Final Update! I think we are set for the 22nd. I've updated the route with a few changes from my recon last weekend. I've also put together a list of stops, fees and addresses for everyone to reference. Both are posted here and I will have copies for everyone on the 22nd. Here are a couple items to keep in mind for the 22nd. We are meeting at Grimes Field in Urbana. There is a restaurant that opens at 6:30 and a B-17 restoration project and museum that opens at 9:00 if you arrive early. Admission to the museum is free and they accept donations. There is a group of people that are arriving early for breakfast about 8:45 ish if you care to join them. We will depart Grimes Field at 9:50am, this is to ensure we arrive at Ohio Caverns in time for our 10:15 tour reservation. If you do not arrive by then you can catch up to the rest of the group at Ohio Caverns, we will be there until 12:00 or so. Ohio Caverns is 15-20 minutes from Grimes Field. Ohio Caverns Historic Guided Tour is reserved for 10:15. It is limited to 28 people and they require single payment for everyone, so bring cash for this tour. If there are more than 28 people on the 22nd some of us will have to take the normal self guided tour as they did not have another reservation available within our timeframe. Historic tour is 1.5hours, regular tour is 1hour. Piatt Castles accepts Cash and Credit Cards. They offer a combo ticket for both Castles that will save about $8 over the cost of 2 separate tickets. Bring a jacket or sweatshirt for the Caverns and Castles. The temperature inside the Caverns is around 54deg regardless of season or outside temperature. The Castles are just what you would expect, cold, damp stone buildings. We need to discuss a suitable location for a group picture, I have several spots in mind that may work. I've picked three different types of bridges to stop and look at during our route, new wooden covered, old wooden covered and old steel girder. These three have adequate parking along the road or pull-off areas for everyone. Of course, if we want to skip a stop or add more it is up to the group, Der Dutchman does not accept reservations, so we have some leeway with the arrival time for dinner. Once we leave the Castles, we will pretty much be cruising around the countryside. Not much in the way of restroom facilities, gas, drinks, food etc. until we arrive at the restaurant. I can help point you in the right direction if the need should arise. I think that covers everything. I look forward to seeing everyone next Saturday and showing you around my small portion of the world. If you have any questions feel free to pm me (wwddnnone). List numbers should match the numbers on the map. Last edited by IROCanSS; 10-20-2011 at 04:19 PM. |

I have a wedding oct. 15th and cant do it that day.
Oct 22 is great because thats the bye weekend for the bengals, although thats not enough to stop me the other weeks. My favorite cruise is to take the back roads to Daniel Boone National Forest... (Red river gorge)... Its like an hour and a half drive, but the back roads down there are beautiful, past a bunch of horse farms and stuff, and then theres a 20 mile road through the actual forest which is AWESOME... even has a 1 lane tunnel thats pretty sweet.... not to mention we could all do a short .1-.5 mile hike to break it up and do something semi-active thats short and easy enough for even the most out of shape of us. I've driven a camaro down there so its definately camaro-friendly even if your lowered. Could grill out up overlooking the gorge too. Other than that, all the other ideas sound good. Is there a reason your thinking wilmington? That seems out of the way for EVERYONE on here and theres not even any good driving over there? heck, I'd rather go to that little town by Heinz if your trying to be close to the NE guys! Otherwise there are great roads along the OH IN border Also look at the Ohio Motorcycle trips almanac thing. If its good motorcycle driving... its good camaro driving! http://www.openroadjourney.com/roads/Ohio.asp http://www.motorcycleroads.us/states/oh.html http://www.columbusbiker.com/index.php?page=routes http://sundaymorningrides.com/road/states/OH.shtml But whatever it is I'll be there unless its the 15th or the winery tour (winery tour + Cars seems like a real bad idea btw???).

2010 Camaro SS modified extensively. I stretched the body to make it a 4 door, but I swapped in the 3.6L DI V6 for fuel economy. Then I picked up a corvette body around the V8. I also swapped the body for a C2 Z28. (In short I traded it for three cars, a Corvette Z06r, a C2 Camaro Z28, and a Cadillac CTS Summer Performance package 3.6L DI with Aisin 6spd.)

Well the Hocking Hill cruise attracts people from Columbus and Findlay... so its not really out of the way for everyone.

I'm in for any day except the 15th. I've got to work 2nd shift that night, otherwise I'm in.
Location? Anywhere. We've been to Hocking, haven't been to the other places. I enjoy the drive regardless.

I cannot speak for the other CONO members, but Ohunions already have commitments for Oct 22 & 29 weekends. We enjoyed the Hocking Hills cruise. We would likely do that (or a similar) cruise again.

October is pretty open for me... as far as Saturdays go.
I don't have a preference on where we'd cruise... Hocking is beautiful but if you guys have done that cruise before, maybe something different would be a good thing!

I'll be attending the NEOCC event...it is held about 3 miles from my home. I went last year, but didn't take my car because I could only attend on Sunday. May be a similar situation this year...My sat's are usually pretty busy.

I'd like to go, but I honestly have no idea what my work schedule will look like in October. It's fairly unpredictable now that I'm driving.
