The bill has passed the house and now the senate today. So it is effective immediately.

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/Bill...Sess=&Session=

Cars with 35% tint in rear windows can have 35% tint in the fronts.

Cars with with tint 30% in the rear windows can have 50% in the fronts.

If you already have less than 30% tint in the rear windows you cannot tint the fronts.

SUV's are screwed, they cannot tint the fronts at all, but that will be addressed next spring I believe.

Rumor has it law enforcement officers have not been informed of the law yet though and are still issuing tickets.

Even if they do you should be able to get it thrown out in court. Anything below 35% in the front is still illegal.

We know about it, it's up to each individual department, and it's officers, to stay current. We, all the way down in Cairo, knew about it sometime ago.

Also coming, no more split speed limit. Those semis, vehicles towing trailers, campers and rvs will be able to do 65mph, after January 1, IIRC.

I wish they would change the tint law in MI! Our law says:

The use of tinting is limited to the rear side windows, the rear window if the vehicle has outside mirrors on both sides, and the top 4 inches of the front side windows. There is a limited exception for medical necessity with a doctor's prescription, which allows for tinting to be applied to the front side windows as well. Michigan does not have a specification for the darkness of the window application, but does prohibit applications with a solar reflectivity greater than 35%.

All of our shop cars have had 5% on the rears and sides and 35% on the entire windshield and amazingly I've never been stopped, but in my own car which has 5% on the rears and 35% on the sides I've been stopped a few times.
