I'm curious why everyone is removing plasti-dip, anyone mind giving reasons why ?
I planned on Plasti-dipping my wheels this winter, but with all these threads about people removing it, I'm wondering why ? |

Plasti dip isn't meant to be a permanent thing

Everyone has mixed opinions on this. I dipped my wheels and they looked nice for about two weeks than one piece started to bubble and tear and it will continue until you tear every bit off and do it again. Others have had their wheels dipped for over a year (I'm sure longer than that) with no issues at all but it is not as durable as powdercoat or paint but for the cost does anyone expect it to be.

With proper prep it can be a pretty long lasting solution, but its in no way permanent.
It can be abraded (scraped) and start to peel, its not completely chemical resistant, etc. A friend did his wheels with it at the start of last winter, they held up well until he drove thru some deeper snow/ice and it put a small nick in the coating on one of the spokes... over the next month it began to peel away until he had this wheel that was partially dipped. Removing the rest of it was a real PITA too. So if you do decide to dip your wheels (or any part of your car) be prepared for the worst case scenario that at some point you may need to remove it and reapply. Just part of the deal, but like Richard pointed out above - for the cost compared to more permanent/durable options you really can't expect much.
