Seriously, I have no idea what all this stuff is... i'm a little more savy about motors and transmissions and diffs and stuff... Going fast around a corner has never been super important to me, fun yes, but critical... not so much...

I keep waiting for BMR to send me a note to let me know. I have told you everything I know... that is they are developing a new LCA that will work with wheels smaller than 17". If I hear from them again or see anything else, then I'll let you know. In the meantime, I'm holding off on race wheels.

If they BMR arms aren't out by the time my car is done, then I'll get 16x10 wheels, use the V6 rear brakes I bought, and have IPS modify my stock LCAs to work with the 16" wheels. (It involves cutting a small notch in each LCA and welding a small plate to them to fill in the notch).

I really want to use MT drag radials (not slicks) on my car because the DRs supposedly work better than slicks on these heavy cars to keep them stable at the fast end of the track. I want to get a width of at least 305 (preferably 315) for the rear and you can't get those widths in a MT DR II that will fit a 17x10 wheel. There is,however, a MT DR II for 16x10 wheels (P315/45R16) which is one reason I want to go with a 16" wheel.

I have spoken with Dan Howard about this. Dan has been a HUGE Pedders advocate. He put my name on his car as a co-driver which would be no big deal had we sponsored him. Dan paid retail for all his Pedders bits so I owe him a thank you. He'll be the first to get the Z bar for custom fitment to aftermarket arms.





It appears there is some structure in the area of the arm where the drop link would be placed.



This appears to be clear, but the plate in the area would require clearancing.





I was hoping the UPS freight with our bars would deliver today. Now it looks like Monday As soon as we get them in, Mr. Fabricator-I-am-going-to-make-them-fit Dan will be all over this.

Not sure what I have for LCA's, but Pumpkin is in the first 5000 Vin# so I assume there 3's. I have the BMR sways and endlinks and it was a whole different car after they were installed.

All of the existing arms are designed for the old style base and FE3 sway bars. The new arm under development that Em linked to uses an FE3 old style sway bar mounting point, but with a spherical endlink. Geometrically it is the same FE3 sway bar setup.

The New style FE4 / FE5 / ZL1 arms use a drop link as opposed to an endlink with the mounting position close to the hub making it far more efficient than the old style inboard mounted sway bar. Initially we were convinced that the new geometry would require a softer smaller diameter rear sway bar. Our thinking was that ride quality would be compromised and rear too loose with a 32mm rear bar and the new mounting points. We started with a 32mm thinking we would work our way down to a smaller diameter softer bar. The results were so incredibly good. We stopped exactly where we started with a 32mm rear bar. We believe it is the strongest you can go without overloading the brackets and bolts that hold the bar in place.

The benefit of the geometry change is that the bar is closer to the wheel. With the new geometry, the bar reacts faster and functions more efficiently. For drag racing it means that the sway bar will be more effective at equally applying power / load to both wheels and the more direct faster action will reduce wheel hop. For the road course autocross of daily driver corner lover they will find the car far more balanced, easier to drive and sticks in the corner like unwanted white dog hair to a black suit.

The ZL1 delivers from the factory with non-adjustable 25mm front and 28mm rear solid sway bars for maximum strength. Pedders new Z style bars are solid 27mm adjustable fronts with 32mm rears,. The new Z style bar is the new standard for the 5th Gen.

All 2010 / 2011 Camaros are base or FE3 with the old style inboard mounting points for the rear sway bar. Maybe. That is what we have Dan looking at. He is going to modify his installed aftermarket arms to accommodate the new Z style bar. Once Dan is done, we'll know for sure.
