Ie. Boss & Boss LS.
Both Camaros the same, but the Z28 has the LS7.

Another question:

Is an SS, with "enhanced LS3+", better to be called a "3SS", if it can't touch a BOSS in either guise?

Would that sanctify the (to me) "legendary Z/28", and still give enough buyers enough of an "upgrade" into near-BOSS performance AND money?

In other words, who'd pay $40-large for a 3SS, or (with essentially the same content), who would only pay that dough for a "Zee"??

$40 - $42K for the SSX: everything, but the LS7.

No way would adding an LS7 only add 5 grand. There is about 6 grand worth of titanium in that motor. Ever price out 1 titanium con rod?

Not to mention the additional power requires additional drivetrain support, dry sump oil system... = more $$$.

Crate motor list prices:

LS3 $8,600
LS7 $16,900
LSA $17,500

The LS7 is only $600 less than an LSA which means an LS7 Camaro would cost right up there with the ZL1 and have less advertised hp. Never gonna happen.

A non titanium 427 would be nice to bump the cubes without the rediuculous price, but I don't see that happening either. Since there is past history of cam changes to bump year to year hp, i.e. both the LS6 and LS1 had cam changes at model year changes.... maybe that's a possibility. The LS3 could easily support more camshaft and the exhaust manifolds are power robbing logs. A minor cam tweak and free flowing manifolds will grab an easy 25.

No it won't touch the Boss Mustangs. But the weight sealed that fate years ago, if that's the goal plan it into the next gen.

You mentioned "driveline upgrades"...now, you don't want them? CTS-V/ZL1 components used in a "Zee" is simply "good business": lower piece costs (more profit$), lower warranty costs/failures (more NET profit$)...

You apparently missed the post, earlier, where I confirmed the existance of a GM kit to convert LS7s to wet-sump...le$$ expensive AND less weight AND better "packaging"...

Try Scoggin-Dickey...$7,000 difference, and someone (SD & GM) is makin' money at THOSE prices, right? Less hp than an LSA, but also about 150 fewer pounds, "as installed"...RIGHT OFF THE NOSE.

...and so could the LS7... ...to close the hp gap with the LSA... If you wanna play that game, whatever cam you throw at a 6.2, you can use MORE in a 7.0 and still maintain "driveability"... FACT. And 550+, warranteed, IS "available".

Fact is, Lt. Dan has already nixed the development of a "sporty-car engine" just because "beating the competition wasn't a good enough reason". Was that a "hot" LS3? Or a Camaro-specific Gen-5 SBC?

Based on his comments, it's likely a "Zee" will require an RPO-ready engine...and that leaves a 426 hp LS3...or a 505 hp LS7... Apparently, "his rules"...

If the new Vette is going to have the rumored GenV V8's would it be worth it GM to continue building the hand built LS7's for just the Camaro?

We have heard numerous times that the LS7 is on its way out and that dropping one in the Camaro would drive the price through the roof.

Now if you add those two statements together it does not look good for a LS7.

So make it with the gen V 'LR7' (or whatever the high performance naturally aspirated V8 is called).
