I think its just a combination of cost saving and common sense. Why use two when you can have only one? I'm not saying that 2 isn't better just from an engineer point it really is a no brainier.
Reminds me of a car I seen once. I can't remember the name of the car but its very expensive im sure. Anyway, the designer put an additional Windshield column in the CENTER of the windshield. From an engineering standpoint this makes all the sense in the world. The car is stronger during rollovers and you don't need to use as thick of steal on the standard 4 column. However, from the consumer side your kinda just thinking, hmmm this is different...... |

doent the windows go up into the frame when you close it? or did that get taken out?
i know i read that somewhere but idr where. it was to reduce wind noise and prevent water leakes. so i really hope they still do it

It was engineered that way on the G8 - and it was something that could be easily adapted to the new Camaro.....(plus, that's where most Austrailians like it!)
It does reduce build complexity and number of parts as well...... |

k. well. the windows are indexed, so i think i will be fairly hard to stick anything between the glass and the frame on the 5ths.

In the 4th gens (Trans Am anyway), when you lock the car and close the door, the buttons on the door stop working. I learned this the hard way on a 120 degree day in Baker, CA. Somehow, the keys ended up in the console, then I locked the door with the door button (thinking I had put the keys in my pocket), closed it and headed into Arby's.
Had to pop the manual lever thing with a L-shaped piece of rebar. |

Just saw the video Richard posted. It seems odd to have the door lock/unlock
there..... But I find it rather interesting. Will take some time to get used to though. I guess that means I have to spend more time in HER when she gets here than originally planned!! |

Honestly, with the Key Fob now standard, how many will actually even use it to lock the doors. Me, I use the key fob to lock the car. I may unlock the doors using the central lock button if I am letting a passenger in.
Also, the inside door handles are "double-pull" meaning if you pull it once it unlocks the door so that on the second pull the door will unlatch and open.

A lot of the Camaro design and engineering work was done in Australia by GM's Holden division as is the Ponitac G8 and as the GTO was. The "vehicle architecture" is the same on these vehicles so they use the same electronics and design layout. If you look at a G8 you'll see the window controls in the center console too. It basically just has to do with using the same electronics and the fact that a "true" driver's car or "true" sports car is supposed to be driven with the left hand on the steering wheel and the right hand is used to shift and control the radio and windows.

Agreed. I think it's cool just will have to get used to it. Will have to spend lots of time playin with my new toy. Wonder if the doors automatically lock when you drive away?

I think most new vehicles auto lock once you put it in drive or at least when
you accelerate past a couple MPH. |

If its anything like the Cobalt... it might lock when you put it in drive and unlock in park. I guess the ones that have taken delivery already could confirm for us.
