GT-R owners and their issues..
I've been reading about GT-Rs lately and came across this thread about what owners hate about their cars:
http://www.nagtroc.org/forums/index....bout-your-gtr/ Also reading a Porsche forum and they were going on about how GT-Rs heat soak after 5 laps and have transmission heating problems; and that the Nurburgring GT-R was a cheater car: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...14-post65.html Quote: A quick translation from Walter Röhrl's interview to Michalis Georgiadis. - Have you ever driven the GTR? -No, never. We will have to buy the car so that I can test it and know for sure how fast it is. But I remember testing the Scuderia here (Nürburgring) and at the long straight the GTR was 120 meters behind me and after 500 meters, it was touching my rear bumper. And the Scuderia is lighter than the Nissan and has 510HP. This is purely a matter of horsepower. If the car was really 480HP and weighted 1740Kg it would have been impossible to make theses times here. Only if you increase the pressure in the turbo and push the output to 600HP.. -So do you really question the way they measured it? Absolutely. I believe that they used motors with a lot more power. Like I told you about 600HP.. The point is, I think a lot of us are duped into the magazine and internet hype about the GT-R and it's supposed dominance, and how a lot of bench racer owners think they have a "super car", but in reality it has its compromises like any car. |

GTRs are some of the best cars out there. The only reason there is so much hype for the car, is because of fanbois, who are generally misinformed. I have a friend who had a grandsport vette, a Murcielago, a Gallardo, a 1000whp evo, an SLS AMG, has a G55 AMG, and countless other cars, and he still maintains that his GTR is his favorite of them all. From high end SUVs, to high end luxury cars, to Exotics, he has owned them all, but the GTR still tops the list. I dare you to take a ride in a GTR, drive it down the drag strip, run it around a road course, whatever, and then tell me that it is overhyped.

Some people say GT-Rs have weak rods, and they saw bent rods at ~500awhp.
Can't confirm it. Just what I heard. Not my cup of tea...but I can see why some people love them.

The point I'm making is that (if you had read the links I posted), that the GT-R cannot maintain its speed after 5 laps, and that things start breaking if you keep launching it hard. In other words, it's monstrous speed is only good for magazines and the odd occasion you want to show off to a hot chick.

Nurburgring times are bull crap. Run results are not officiated or verified by an official third party. Like someone above said, fanboys and misinformed groups believe hype and run with it like reality.

sounds like you're hating on a car you wish you can have.

GT-R's are incredible cars, but not in my taste or price range. They do have problems when raced, but so do dedicated NASCAR racers. If you push any vehicle to it's limits, you will find the weak points. Stock vs. Stock, the GT-R will be as reliable as the cars it competes against.

The whole nuburgring hero lap thing is so out of control. This trend is catered to magazine racers with track experience amounting to 16 hours of Gran Turismo on PS3. Comparing lap times between different cars with different drivers, on different days, on such a large track is about as good as arm wrestling over Skype. Why don't we just stop having organized F1 races and let everyone just get to the track when they feel like it and compare lap times? No worries, they'll all record their own times and make sure their own cars abide by regulations.

I'd rather have a ZL1, a Z06 or a GT500 and the extra $40,000. The GT-R is a very good car but for $100,000 it damn well ought to be.

The GT-R hits 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds
The GT-R does the 1/4 mile in under 11 seconds The GT-R has an amazing Ring time (and is the most liveable car on the list) The GT-R is less than 100K The GT-R is a BEAST and will go down in history period. |
