Ok, I'm really starting to like the camaro, but something is bothering me. It looks like the new V6 DI engine is also going into the ST sport truck and the G8 base model. Its also used in some Saab's I believe and of course the cadillac. I do kind of like the G8 sedan, but don't like the idea that a lot of other cars will have the same engine as the new camaro with the same hp and be nearly as fast as the "sporty" camaro and be a "family" car. I know the camaro may be slightly quicker due to a little bit lighter and gearing, but I bet the G8 will be very close in terms of performance. I know you can get the big V8, but that's just not in my budget right now. A couple of the other cars I was considering have their "own" motor. The 3.8 in the gencoupe is used in other hyundai's, but is tuned for more power in the coupe and the mustang's 4.6L is only in the mustang in that configuration. Therefore those cars have more unique motors than the camaro V6...

I thought the ST was dead.

Look at the bright side, more LTTs on the road mean cheaper, easier to get parts. There should also be more aftermarket support.

It's about more than just the engine. It's the entire drivetrain, weight of the car, the computer and the car in general. For example, the Corvette has the same LS3 engine as the SS, but has higher HP and better performance. Don't feel bad about the Camaro sharing an engine. It's the whole package that matters!

i dont understand what your point here is? you want GM to design/build a new motor specifically for the V6? How would that make sence when they are bankcrupt? That would just cozt more money to do all the research.

Yeah, I understand it costs more to have a different engine for each car, but they could at least tune them slightly different for the car they are designed for. I'm not knocking the engine, seems like its a pretty good one and I know its the whole package with the camaro. I guess that's what aftermarket and/or factory accessories are for too. Camaro buyers will probably be more likely to put some bolt-ons on their cars to increase performance than some of the other cars too...

none of the other engines you listed are on wards top ten for 2009...
LLT is.
two years in a row.
id take a good engine thats in more than one car,
over one of lesser quality that is in only one.

the 4.6 from the stang was in the topten for 07/08, but has since been out dated.

ps. its also in explorers and F150s

The ST has been canceled.

The Camaro has the most powerful version along with the least weight. G8 and CTS have less than 304 hp.

The 2010 G8's are supposed to get the DI version with 304hp from what I hear. As for the 4.6, the 2010 is better than the 2009 and is actually the same as was in the bullet edition last year with 315hp and torque increases if you use premium fuel also.

Why are you so concerned about the 3.6 vs the 4.6? The G8 still weighs a couple hundred more pounds than the Camaro.

Just something I was thinking about. I guess the camaro as a package is still a pretty darn good deal as long as you can get one without any stupid markups...

Do you think the SS is also bad because the same engine is available in the Corvette and G8 GXP? Hell the GXP with less HP and more weight is even quicker than the SS. Seems like an awfully strange thing to worry about.

I never said they were bad. The V8 is an excellent engine and so is the V6. I guess any engine that was originally in a cadillac has too be pretty good...

The LLT (and sister engines, too) is going to become GM's new workhorse. Expect to see even higher interest in the power plant now that it managed to return a 29mpg hwy EPA rating.....

...I suppose "get used to it" is the best advice to give.
