Manual or Automatic?
I've been posting lately about my search for a 2012-2013 Convertible Camaro. I'm not 100% decided yet if I want a manual or automatic. I see mostly automatics. Did anyone that have an automatic and wanted a manual regret getting an automatic? Do any of you that have a manual wish you had gotten an automatic?

manuals are just fun! i love shifting, but i have a bad knee, so my camaro being a dd, i opted for the auto. but i don't regret it, using either sport mode or paddle shifters is fun as well. totally up to personal choice.

My first Camaro was an auto. I was fine with it but it was a little boring. I love my manual trans now and would not go back. I really feel part of the car now. Granted mine is a toy so I get a break from it when I go back and forth to work in my beater truck.

My car isn't a DD, and it is my first sports car. I always wanted a manual car. I do love it I have to say. However there is a simplicity of just stomping the gas and letting the machine do the work. Considering that this is also my first manual car, I can see people beating me if we were to race, based upon the auto just shifting smoother and faster. But I won't give up the manual. :>) |

The auto trans is a $1200.00 luxury and worth every cent.

One of my concerns is I live in a pretty hilly area and I'll be pretty new to driving a stick. I had a T-Rex and while manual, is a bit different than a manual car. I haven't really driven a manual car for any length of time. So I know its a personal preference but how about regrets if you wish you would have gone the other way.

Is it going to be your daily driver? Will you be the only driver?
Anything else you can a share about the intended use? Also are you wanting a V6 or V8?

This thread will wind up like the thousand before it. Manual owners will swear by the manual.....auto owners will do likewise. You'll learn nothing beyond our individual biases.
Pick your poison and enjoy it.

I am looking to get a 2SS. My daily driver will be a Lincoln SUV. So its for fun, which is what is making me think manual.

Might as well be a v6 vs v8 thread

Funny you should ask...
When I ordered my 2SS earlier this year I ordered it with the automatic. This was based on my test drive experience. I found the automatic to be quicker accelerating and just overall more user friendly. If you want to go fast, you simply floor it and steer. The manual was so much work, clutch out, ease into it, move forward, clutch and shift again, ease into it, move forward, REPEAT...it just seems slower compared to an automatic. So I ordered the car with an automatic transmission. THEN...I slept on it and decided I really wanted the NPP Dual Mode exhaust with quad outlets along with the sound and experience of working the car through the gears. When entering a corner, it's nice to put the transmission in 2nd gear and hold it there through the corner...which you can sort of simulate with paddles, but not really. In the end, I think I made the right decision. I bought my Camaro to be a throw-back old school fun car to drive - I have my DD beater minivan to drive the rest of the time.
