I only have 9500 miles on my 2010 2SS 6M and every once in a while when shifting into third there is an unusually loud clunk. At first I thought it was me miss shifting, but after it reaccuringly happened I thought otherwise. I am wondering if the clutch is having trouble gripping 3rd for some reason. I have done my fair share of work around cars, but transmissions are a whole other beast. Just need something to go to the dealer with to get them to fix it.

Could be several things causing the issue. Hard to say without hearing it. I would probably rule out the clutch and related parts, as the clutch actuates the same no matter which gear range is selected. It would not act up for one gear and work fine for others. I know my 2010 will give a split second of a grind into third when cold but is gone as soon as it gets some heat to it. Honestly most GM's I have been in do this and I am in probably 3-5 a day. Very few standards anymore though. I recommend taking it to the dealer. But ask for there trans or driveability guy or the manager and take them for a ride to show them what you have going on.

I've got the same slight grind into third when the trans is cold, but no clunking sound.

Do you think it might be a bit of slack in the driveline you are hearing?

that is what I thought, i'll have to throw it up on the lift and have someone shift around. see what I can see and hear.

I had a grind going into 3rd gear on the track, but after doing some reading on the master cylinder, I purchased the Ideal Garage master cyl. and the problem went away with regular clutch fluid changes. Some people had that grind going into second. There's a theory of the compression rate the master cylinder has as it goes from 1st to 2nd to 3rd ect... There's a thread somewhere on here talking about it. good luck
