In all honesty Mercs have a terrible reputation for being in the shop all the time, as well as other "high end" manufacturers from Europe. Some are built rock solid, others not. Just like NA vehicles. US auto makers painted themselves with the "unreliable, shoddily built" brush for the last while but they have been awaken (I hope) to the quality issue. Ford has done very well in Europe as well as GM subsidiarys. There are a surprising amount of vehicles in Europe that are wearing different clothes but are GM underneath. And somehow those are seen as built of better quality. Doesn't make sense to me. Alot of it are pre-conceived notions and stereotypes. of course the Camaro lost the "comparison" if you call it that to a car double the price. Just because it has the same displacement engine doesn't mean it's in the same league. What I find funny is that in alot of review's like this they'll compare 2 cars of similar $ value and take huge marks off for one being 4-5k more than the other (i.e. the 4-door maserati, porsche, aston comparison this week) but in this case DOUBLE the price didn't seem to be the problem That said, I love Top Gear and have every episode of every season on my external hard drive. If you know what they're about, this review makes perfect sense for their M.O. If they'd have reviewed the Camaro by itself indepth, Hammond would have loved it and Clarkson would have hated it. That's just the way it goes. "Ambitious, but rubbish" is how their stuff usually turns out as they say. haha

Awesome! I do not beleive thay have a vehicle on their board that can hit 1.38 gs on street tires. So lets see if they will take us up on our offer. They definately have not seen a Camaro like the Pedders Camaro over there. We have assisted with a Camaro that is being prepped for the Ring. The build is is Norway.

I think the actual comparison in that episode was the sedans they tested. If you listen to what James said before the Camaro/Merc clip, these were just two new muscle cars that Hammond was testing out. I didn't see any actual comparing going on the whole time, save for the price/value statement. Though my friend showed me a Popular Mechanics article where they have the limit removed from the Camaro and it tops out at 174.4mph, so saying that the 186mph the E63 will do is "40 more than the Camaro will do" is bull.

I agree that the price they quoted makes it sound pretty unreasonable price-wise. However, here, I don't think it's out of line considering what else is out there. I don't know the exact conversion, but I believe the car in that clip would probably be close to about 20K pounds or so.

I spent a day with Chevy at Goodwood and got to drive the Camaro. I met people responsible for the Camaro in the UK and the marketing and pricing - we'll only get the V8 SS and it'll be between £27k and £35k. I would expect the latter. To reply to Povanic - I bought a Monaro and I believe it was worth every penny of it's £36k price tag over here. I believe the Camaro will be too - it's not a crap car; it handles, it has a proven, strong engine, it's comfortable and has plenty of modern conveniences... it's FANTASTIC... Chevy UK is NOT Chevy US. Remember that. And yes, whilst I am biased, I've owned Porsche 911s and I believe them to be some of the finest handling and performing cars that money can buy - but for the money, and the potential, I see no reason not to trust in the Camaro.

My pleasure.
To add - I've been waiting patiently since 2006 for this car. Now even longer, trusting in Chevrolet to bring it to my shores. I continue to wait.

^ Yes, but with that mercedes.. your paying that sort of money because it's a totally different car as far as luxury and craftsmanship go. Unless you ever driven anything like that... it's hard to really know what I mean.
