I've already heard rumors about an updated direct injection version of the Coyote for mid-2015 that will produce considerably more HP than the current 5.0

What's really more interesting is the 310hp from the EcoBoost 4 cylinder. That's going to sway a few buyers away from the V6 (which went down in power? That's odd)

They wanted the V6 to be the base and the 2.3T to be the middle model. Very odd. Power numbers aren't anything to be concerned with though.

Base 2015 6MT Mustang GT fastback onto the scales and it'll show 3705 lbs. That's an 87-pound increase over the 2014. With the new automatic, the Mustang GT weighs 3729 pounds, a 54-lb increase.
Going off advertised power ratings:

Ford:
Boss 302 = .122 HP per LB
13/14 GT500 = .172 HP per LB
2014 GT = .116 HP per LB
2015 GT = .117 HP per LB

*03/04 Cobra = .106 HP per LB

GM:
C7 Corvette = .138
'10+ Camaro SS = .109
'14 Camaro Z/28 = .131
'14 Camaro ZL1 = .140
*2002 SS Camaro = .095

Not to mention the V6 is on borrowed time in the Mustang. Who knows how much longer it will be available.

I am only disappointed in the HP numbers for the Turbo 4 I was hoping it would be around 325 to 335 but 310? ugh and I know ford sometimes tunes them lowish but geez its not much off the V6

Really? That's the only one that's impressive to me. How many 4 bangers making 310hp from factory? Boosted or not? The evos and sti's have been using turbo 4's for years, and are around 300-305hp/300tq.

Is that it? I was really hoping to see 450/425 for this model. It will probably run about the same on the strip.

The new Mustang may not be any faster than the outgoing model. That slight power to weight ratio increase could get offset by the larger brakes and IRS. I'm sure they will add direct injection for the 2016 or 2017 model year. The thing is though that the LT1 is nowhere near its limits. Tune only LT1's have shown a 30RWHP increase so GM could up the power on that engine by another 20HP.

Agreed. It is nice to have that extra breathing room with larger displacement engines.

That's what the overboost "feature" is for.

You might be right. But thinking of this as an "old" S197 with a 15hp/10tq boost is looking at it all wrong. Even with this modest increase in the 5.0's output, it may/most likely will do better in most competitive measures vs S197.

Another point to remember that this gen1.5 Coyote is only 9hp down from the Roadruner but 20tq up...at a lower redline rpm at that.

I was also surprised about the HP ratings on the 2015 5.0's and to make matters worse for them the Mustang is gaining 80-100lbs, so I figure it will run about the same as the current 5.0's...

I think we are seeing the death of the v6 mustang with these new numbers, which is a shame.
