If the ZL1 wasn't meant to target the GT500 and Boss 302, then General Motors developed the ZL1 on the wrong platform.

Maybe its just designed to dominate at the track and not compete with one specific make/model?

This quote seems to support your theory (confusing because the GT500 is listed as the competitor on the ZL1 spec sheet)...

“This car really doesn’t have a direct competitor in segment, or out of segment – that’s how good the car is and I can tell you right now, I’ve driven a lot of cars and done a lot of development – this car is one of the most refined cars.” - Mark Reuss

Either way, we're gonna be paying plenty. Catch 22.
even in high demand times, you can always find fair and honest dealers. I got my 2SS/RS in May 2009 when MSRP was rare and prople were paying insane mark ups... I paid $3000 UNDER MSRP because I did my homework and found a fair dealer.

It turned a 7:41 so I would not say its the wrong platform....

Im just thinking outside the box here

SS-Z/28-GT500 competitor-Ultimate ZL1.... that would be one hell of a line up!

I have my fingers crossed that it is 53K also. That price is on the verge of my limit. I have quit smoking to be able to try and afford this car (smokers know that it takes something very big to make you stop smoking). Even with the money from not smoking I will be pushing it to get one.

I can’t agree with the corvette/cts-v performance = their cost!?! I am with Goldenbear it is a Camaro and should be aligned with the mustang. Also how many times have you heard "A Camaro is for the working man"? Well I am a working man and trying to give the ZL1 all the money that I can scrounge up.

Here is to praying for another ZL1 miracle

I think that things are starting to get out of hand somehow. Its great that we are now learning how good of a performer the zl1 is, but if this car is so good that it doesn't consider the gt500 a competitor, then where does that leave it in terms of price?? Is it so special that $50,000 won't cut it for purchase?? Does the zl1 now consider itself as a high end model.....dangerously approaching the z06 in status and price???

Chevy should remember where the camaro's roots are (as if they don't know?). I am a little concerned that the pricing will end up going above a reasonable target for camaro buyers. If this happens it will clearly be out of my price range.

I am ecstatic about the zl1's newfound prowess, but at the same time I'm concerned that things could get out of hand in price; Not even mentioning the market adjustment garbage from the dealerships.

Well hopefully the Z28 is going into development and there will be an alternative to the ZL1 with a lower price and less bells and whistles etc.
