Just as many of us thought . . .
Just as many of us thought regarding the Z/28 . . . we got in under the wire!
"A new Camaro will likely be here in 2017, and everyone will likely complain about it being ugly and underpowered. But the fact of the matter is, the future of the industry isn’t about massive engines or quarter miles, it’s about efficiency, lightness and technology. Cars will still be plenty powerful and they’ll still be a hoot to drive, but it’s evolve or die out there. We hope Chevy chooses the former." https://autos.yahoo.com/news/camaro-...120038602.html |

Jeff Perez is an idiot.
Good thing Al Oppenheiser is in charge of these things and not some limp-wristed, goody two shoes, global warming cultist like this gas bag who doesn't deserve the webspace to post his mindless drivel about universal dullmachines for the masses. One of the reasons I bought an LS3 this year is that they are likely extinct with Gen6 when you will be spoon fed direct injection and AFM on all V8s.

That article is wrong on just about everything.
The 6th gen is a 2016 model It will NOT look like that red car. That is the Code 130r concept and has been around for years. It will be lighter, faster and better. |

One thing is for sure; we are on the verge of having lightweight materials available at a relatively cheap price. 3-D printing of carbon-fiber parts is here in prototype form, and will revolutionize the auto industry [IMHO]. Once the price barrier is down, look for weight reductions of 10% over five years, and 15% to 20% by the end of the decade.
Anyone seen the Katech V4 that they developed for the new Motus brand? Think about a 2,600 pound 2-seater smaller than the Vette, with a massaged V4 (half of an LS3 engine) with 250 to 300 bhp. I'd be up for that! That being said, you can pry my Z/28 from my cold, dying hands... "biggrin:

I can't wait for the new Camaro, as I expect GM to take a pretty damn good car and make it better in every measurable way possible.

This guy thinks he's reporting who won the Prius vs SUV war. He missed the point. The Gen5 car is at the limit of weight for a sports coupe no matter what you think of fuel economy.
The real battleground for FE is SUVs/Trucks, which sell in the millions annually. I doubt GM is seriously thinking they are going to materially affect their CAFE with Camaros. I am going to say GM is building in a safety margin with a well engineered 4cyl coupe in case fuel prices rise more than the current rate. Seems prudent, since interest rates and the US dollar are at artificial levels, though the adjustment is I am thinking 5 years off.
