Gen 5 Camaro to a Gen 6 Camaro

Since the total redesign of the 6th Generation Camaro...Do you believe it will be the end of the true american muscle car??

Not sure why anyone would think this? Just because of a new generation? From what we've seen from the Ford and Dodge camps, the Camaro can totally go away and the American Muscle Car won't be dead. But I'm certain a great performing and sounding V8 at a relatively good price will be coming for the 6th Gen, keeping a Chevy version alive and well. Just because it might be able to turn as well as go straight, doesn't make the muscle car dead...

The end of the old fashioned push rod motor is approaching...but that is all.

While this may be true, it will probably be a very slow end. GM is getting 450+ HP and 30 MPG highway out an NA pushrod motor. Dodge going strong with them as well. LT1 and Lt4 (current versions) are new motors, don't see them going away for a number of years, and don't see GM dropping a pushrod V8 for this generation of Corvette (or Camaro). Will be too big of a change. I can see the C8 ditching them in favor of a high performance hybrid that seems to be the super-car rage these days. Hard to see it going away before then.

Doubtful...

If anything Gm needs to keep improving upon the push rod, single cam, V8 and use it's low center of mass, small dimensions but large displacement and simplicity to compete with the Ford and Mopar.

Why they choose to put such a compact motor in a massive car like the 5th gen is beyond me. The biggest problem with the 5 gen is it's size and weight not it's push rods...

Maybe GM will develop a better VVT (cam within a cam) for the future LT engines and give us the best of both worlds?

Yep. "As we knew it"

In fact, I would go as far as to say the ZL1 and Z28 even broke out of the muscle car genre and stepped into super car territory.

With the Gen6 being even higher "tech" than the Gen5, probably having MagRide and being smaller and lighter -- I tend to think of the Gen6 as being a 4 seater sports car and less of a muscle car.

BUT! Like I said, its the end of muscle cars "as we knew it". Muscle cars will stand along side sports cars with the only discerning difference being styling and number of seats. But we'll still call them muscle cars I suppose.

Camaro is a pony car not a muscle car. Gen 5 leaned more toward muscle and Gen 6 may be closer to pony. No matte what you call it, Gen 6 is bound to be a great car.

Overhead valve (pushrod) engines are a newer technology than overhead cam engines that have been installed in cars since 1902. Electric cars were available before then.

Even with all the buzz of the new Ford 5.2L flat plane crank which should be an awesome engine Cadillac was using a 4.7L V8 with a flat plane crank back in 1914-17.

All current power options available are modern versions of 100+ year old technology.

I think it has to come out before you can make that call ha ha.

I think it will be better all the way around. the 5th gen is really too heavy.

once there is a model with the Lt4 it will be the fastest camaro ever.

now looks wise I can say the rendering have me luke warm
