I agree, a product like that is just asking for someone to hit your car. Any product that is meant to protect your car from damage means you care about your car in the eyes of vandals and hit and run demons. They will go out of their way to make you a target just to spite your best efforts.
Drive a beater to the mall or park way out in the lot, away from threats.

When I lived in Brooklyn, a lot of cars had these -- and you needed them. People would back right into your car and slam into the one in front using the "touch" method of parallel parking!

Touch method would warrant a beat down. Just one more reason to never go to new york

You are absolutely correct sir. Of course that doesn't protect you from the douchebag rusted Civics and pickups that will park next to you WAAAAY the hell out there just to piss you off. It's ALWAYS a Civic or a truck, always.

You can never park far enough from the car banging nut heads at the mall. Tonight I parked at the far end of the parking lot. When I returned there was a big brown Galaxy 500 backed in to the spot right next to me. I checked the car close and found no dents.

Years ago I had just finished a complete frame-off on a 68 Impala vert and had a Dr's app. I parked way out in the parking lot and before I could get out of the car an old man in a new big Buick pulled up next to me adn before I could move he just swings the door open and crunches the pass side door! I get out and am speachless, and he is out and looks at me and says "thats why I have the bumpers on my doors so they don't get scratched"!!! Amazing.
