Man,i dodged a bullet.

So i pull my car out to take these pic's and share of my new spoiler, when i notice oil on the floor. It's like, WTF my car i new.I jack her up to find my oil filter is loose, and see oil dripping down.I haven't driven her in over a week as the stock spoiler has been off and it just looks stupid not having the car complete.I have been waiting on my wrap guy to get the spoiler wrapped. There's a good chance if i had been driving her the filter would of come off while driving.

Now i have always changed my own oil, this being my 1st V8,but changing oil is changing oil.I know the filter needs to be hand tight, but im always afraid of over tightening it.Should an oil filter actually be torqued tight,or just learn from being almost a complete idiot.

Hand tight and then a little more, with a filter wrench.
Did you remember to rub. Some oil on the gasket?

The system I have used for the past 45 years is remove old filter ,check to see is gasket/rubber is stuck on filter, lube new filter gasket ,and hand tighten . Have never had a leak . Strong hands are needed or you may need a filter wrench .YMMV

Same as others...hand tight, place some oil on the new filter gasket and there you have it. Now my hand tight is pretty tight.

OAN...what spoiler is that you have?

Yeah like they said tight plus a little bit more. Oddly I always put them on by hand but usually need filter pliers to get them off.

That looks like a Z/TA spoiler. I just got one too. Maybe not...

Don't overtighten but even if you did I'd imagine it would damage the filter not the car.

I always hand tighten mine, unfortunately i've had to use the time test screw driver through the filter before to remove one though.

I usually try to get it tight as possible just by hand and that should be good enough.

Phastek had them on sale for about $300 and I also got one of the ACS GTZ hoods when Lingenfelter had them on sale for about $550 + $250 freight. Got it all painted after much distress with the finish for about $500. I spent too much, even though I saved a bunch. I love the look though. There's more pics in my build thread found in my signature.

Yep, same here.

I have never had an oil filter come lose or leak.

You don't want to get one too tight, otherwise you will have a hard time getting it off.
