Unhappy Dead Battery

Went to start the C5 on 09/09/2011 2 years to the day after delivery and the battery was dead. The car had been sitting only for a week. Jump started today with out a problem but she will not hold a charge.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem at such an early stage? I wasn't able to find any specific warranty info in my materials stating the battery is covered under the OEM 3/36 Warranty. It's sunday so the selling dealer is not open but will be checking in with them on Monday.
Does anyone know if the battery is covered under the OEM Warranty? This car only has approx 11,500 miles on it.

PS: Priced a new battery at Autozone = $154.00
:(

Battery Issues

I use to have lots of battery issues with my previous car a 2008 Pontiac G6 GXP. That car left me stranded in my college parking lot one night when it was about 15 degrees outside and then it died in my garage. Pontiac gave me two free jump starts and they would charge my battery for me but never replaced it Make sure you get a new battery and not just a free battery charging.

Thanks, I drove it for a while and parked it back in the garage, shut it down and it would not re-start. I will not accept a battery charge.

Measured the voltage before and after the jump start

Before: 4V DC
After jump start + about 45 min of driving: 11V DC.
I don't have a charger to run over night but maybe a longer drive would have been in order. It still shouldn't have failed and it will get a new one if the charging system checks out.

Sidewinder you really need to charge your battery overnight on a 6 to 10 amp charger.

All your doing driving it around is putting a surface charge on it, and straining your alternator.

I have a battery shop, and discharged batteries are one of the most common problems we see.

For whatever reason, it became discharged. Could be your charging system is not working properly, could be you left the dome light on, could be a serious parasitic drain.

But definitely I would charge the battery overnight and then have it load tested. If its not charged first, its gonna check out bad on the load test.

Once the battery is fully charged, or replaced, crank the car, turn your AC and headlights on, and check the voltage output at the battery, it should be at least 13.5. Anything less and the alternator is not charging properly.

My 2 year old daughter is sitting on my lap and really wanted me to put the yellow smiley face with big eyes on the screen, so here it is

Good luck!

It's an acdelco, that's about all you can expect. Not what you want to hear i am sure, but they are total piles of garbage. One draw down and it will never recover in my experience. 3 chevy trucks in the past, all i've ever gotten out of them is 2 years, every one died in year 2. I don't bother with the warranty, because i don't like to deal with being stranded and replacing these damn things every 2 years. Get something with high reserve capacity, i posted this yesterday as someone was complaining of weak battery/start. Does battery seem weak to you?
I'll probably get flamed, but 3 times over last 12 yrs same exact thing happened to all of them, 2yrs and gone, don't hold up to FL heat at all or draw downs, so i trust acdelco junk batteries about as far as i can throw them.

Edit. Saw OP 1st post. I like the autozone duralast (made by interstate), one of highest reserve capacity. One in my avalanche lasted 6 yrs. 5 yrs on the one before that in my other truck when i sold it.

The stock battery in my 04 GMC 1/2 ton never did die, but I replaced it after 6 years anyways as it was starting to crank slow.

Interstate doesn't make the duralast battery, in fact interstate does not make batteries.

JCI (Johnson Controls Inc.) makes batteries that are marketed by Interstate, Autozone, Discount, Walmart, and AC Delco.

The majority of batteries made by JCI are now made in Mexico.....

JCI makes the batteries to the specifications of each of these companies.

If you want a great battery, go with an AMERICAN MADE battery, which is unfortunately, very difficult to find these days.

Any battery with a Deka or East Penn label is made in Pennsylvania. I carry there batteries as well as many other independent battery specialists. But the only national retailers I can think of that carries them are Car Quest and O'Reillys.
