I posed this situation to DH who has owned a few old school muscle cars and used them as DD.

His last one was a 73 roadrunner that his neighbors could hear for a block when he started it up. He was respectful and didn't romp on it, and he heard the PA comments as well. After a while, they stopped. He said they'll get used to the noise.

I could never understand why someone would buy/rent near the railroad line, but after a while you get used to it and don't even notice it.

Maybe if you let them drive it up and down the road once in awhile they will be happy.

Yet another reason I'm glad I don't live in town.

Have you thought about getting a quieter exhaust, but then get electric cutouts so you can be loud once you leave the neighborhood?

I love my cutouts!

Anything you do is going to cost - de-mod, move, sets of earplugs, etc. Can't see a practical solution except explain and hope for the best. That's tough esp. if one is an airline pilot - needs sleep & is responsible for many lives.

If you end up changing your car it's going to cost you a lot of money to do so and it would suck to make the investment without a legitimate complaint.
I agree, talk to them.

When I was 19 I thought women LOVED the sound of my exhaust, my wife now informs me how little they do.

Oh well, the sound is for me and not them. Though to be fair, my tastes are no longer just "dude, I WANT THE LOUDEST EXHAUST EVER!," instead I prefer a more refined but still muscular tone (running Borla CB on my LS1).

I'm trying to imagine the number times a jet taking off from an airport has awoken someone from their slumber or the sirens from a cruiser blasted someone from the comfort of a long winters nap....................no excuses or excuse me notes.

...................on the otherside, I completely understand the unpleasant disturbence of a loud muffler in the wee hours of the morn.........our thoughtless neighborhood noise maker drives a old Toyota. lowered till it scrapes the pavement complete with a coffee can system...................You can hear it enter the area from several miles away. He likes racing it to and from home no matter the time of day or night.
