look more like a oil return system that doubles as a catch can

Dry sump tank (for the oil storage) VS a wet sump like most V8's.
You will never see a catchcan from the factory on anything less than a exotic super car. The 1LE clean side separator is as close as it gets, and the new LT1 DI engine from GM has redesigned the PCV system for like the 12th or so time "One of the most distinctive features of the Gen V LT1 is the domed rocker covers. They haise a patent pending positive crankcase ventalation system (PCV), which enhances oil economy and life, reduces oil consumption, and contributes to low emmissions." Which is what a good catchcan does already. great to see they are trying to reduce valve coking issues all DI engine have, but it wont stop it all. |

so why is this dry sump suppose to be better than a wet sump? the damn things uses 10.5 quarts of oil so it obvisoulsy isnt to reduce weight is it?
and this "1LE clean side separator ", does it work good? |

Hard corbering and braking causes wet sump windage (oil splashing around ) that can rob power and if you suck some air in the pickup that is a momentary starvation of oil. A dry sump is constantly supplying the same amount of oil at all times and no pickup tube in a wetsump to suck air. The more oil, the better in longevity, keeping cool, and maintaining protection properties longer.
GM first started using the dry sump with the C6 Z06 corvette (427 ci) LS7. |

Oil starvation issues with high g turns and also more oil means lower temps, road racing will see incredibly high temps that can grenade a motor/bearing.
