LS3 for Camaro announced at meeting!
there was a exe. meeting in durham and my couzin was in attendance and called me soon after... some notes worth mentioning... the ls3 will be in the 2009 launched camaro in some available trim, the 6 cyl is DI unit, at least the front brakes will be 4 piston, there will be a remote start keyfob, the gas filler door will not be above the fender line, the headlight arrangement , grill, side marker lamps, and auxillary foglights have yet to be finalized... AND there will be a non legal/non-road-going camaro avalible to dealers and race teams, the engine, and drivetrain is un-announced but will be limited to production of less than 500 units

I voted 1 year.

I don't really think that this poll makes sense without more choices and a clearer question. The only reason I voted 1 year is because I'm probably not going to be able to get a new car until the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010. When I do get that new car, it definitely will be a Camaro - hopefully the base V8 model.

I'm planning on waiting until 2012 (3ish years) anyway, mainly financial reasons, but if it also means a brand new super cool engine, then all the better. This is going to be my daily driver as well as a weekend track day car, so I'm looking for a balance of power, reliability, efficiency, and cost. If (hypothetically) the L76 was the base V8 and the LS3 was an upgrade at extra cost, I'd go with the L76, as I'm willing to trade some power for some extra efficiency and cost friendliness (not to mention slightly better insurance rates).

Yeah, insurance is easy to forget about. I'm thinking about daily driving this thing, but come to about 2011, if my 'Yota is still holding up, I'll drive it until the wheels come off and make this the second weekend-only Camaro

Seems now-a-days your insurance rates have as much or more to do with your credit score than with what your actually driving. Any insurance guys care to enlighten us?

The poll needs a 'doesn't matter to me' option.

I don't care which generation the engine is, so long as I can get something with over 375hp and reasonable fuel economy for under 30k. Anything more than that will be well outside my affordability range, no matter how cool the powertrain is.

The only way I'd hold out for a new engine is if it had some kind of ground breaking fuel efficiency. I've already got a SVT Focus for a practical and efficient daily driver, so all I really care about in the Camaro is a powertrain that's at least as good as the 4th gen stuff and a world class chassis to plug it into.
