Trust me when I say no one is as anal about their cars as me. However two weekends ago I hauled a used carb (edelbrock off my big block cutlass) and a deer carcass from Mobile to Birmingham (250 miles).
One of the top carb guys on Earth lives in B'ham (Jerry Hallman, NHRA Tech Inspector). I wrapped it in several plastic bags but the gas smell still permeated a tiny bit (in the trunk only). The deer parts were the throwaway (organs etc) and were frozen and double industrial bag wrapped (about 40 pounds). I delivered them to my daughter to feed her two prized German Sheppard's. I told my daughter and the Cutlass they better believe how much I love them to put that in my 5000 mile SS. I washed the trunk mat very gently with ivory liquid and a chamois and let drip dry in the sun and it looks and smells like new again and I can live guilt free for the rest of my days. The ultimate irony is that my wife and I were attending a Ballroom Dance Competition in B'ham (it's our career). If we'd have been pulled over and searched we'd have Ballgowns, Tails, Car parts and unrecognizable animal guts all in the trunk. Explain that! |
