painting rear fender flares??

not sure what these are called, but I'll call them rear fender flares.

When I first saw my rally yellow car, these not being black really stuck out. Searching the web, only the picture below (white) has the fender flares painted black. I really like the way it looks.

How would one color these black?..please don't say use a sharpie!

The white car has them black, the red car doesn't.

I spoke too soon...I just found this pick....I don't like it with the hockey stick, and the black needs to be flat like the stripes....but I want to give it a try...

what material, and where did you find them?

Doesn't the car have a clear coat over the base color/paint. would airbrushing over this clear coat cause an issue? Do you need to spray a clear coat over the air brush, or just reapply annually?

New cars don't have rear "fenders". They are 1/4 panels.
This Camaro looks good left alone but the aftermarket gill inserts do add something to the otherwise plainsided Camaro.

They should be available from your dealer. My niece had them applied at my dealer.

Ebay has them as well. I don't think they are a lot of money.

I would like to know who makes the most authentic gills that most closely resemble the concept/BumbleBee Camaro?

It's not finding the clostest to BB that you want, but ones that actually look like they make the gills look like they are actually cut out. In my on opinion, if you can see the black stripe from all sides of the car, it's not realistic (like the white one above). If they were truely 'cut out', then you most likely would not see them from the far rear. I just saw some last night that came from ridergraphix (I think) on a camaro. They looked much better because they were a lot thinner than others and actually sat on the 'cut out' section of the gill. Not the flat part of the car. They also have a good shadow effect. These other types of decals that are just pin stripes cut flat doen't look that real too me, I would go with these first...

I've also been told they are super easy to put on.

Gill Blackouts

Here are a couple of shots of mine. Too bad you're not in San Antonio as I just gave a set of solid black ones away last week. I first bought the solid black ones and then saw these from www.autotrimdesign.net (I think I paid around $30) that fade in so I installed them instead. I like the fade in look a little better. With the fade in it is just allowing the color of your Camaro bleed through the vinyl. I took pictures of all three angles so you can see the look. I also blacked out my front and rear bowties last week as well as blacked out my stock mufflers which looks a lot better now - let me know if you want to see pictures of those and I'll send as well.
