Depends, it could be electroluminescent plastic/tape or LED's or even just plastic that white led's pass through..

Until I see what it is and how its done, I cant tell weather it will be easy/cheap.

Keep in mind that if it is just LED's we need to find out the parameters of them and then look into getting the correct ones (voltage and such).

PS: pray they aren't high light output LED's .. those are expensive

PPS: also, depending on setup its possible it could be converted to be multicolor(multicolor LED's) and be switchable.

It was my understanding that the ambient lighting is actually thin neon rope lighting powered but high output leds. If this is indeed the case, you're looking at as much as $50 per foot depending on the color and it's only available in 7 colors as those are the only colors that the semiconductors used to make leds are able to produce (white, yellow, red, orange, blue, purple and green).

red and white for color mixing purposes.
