Headers and stock cat-back

I tried a search and didn't find any sound clips. My original idea was to do a stainless works cat-back and call it a day performance mods wise for a year or so, but the more people I talk to say the cat-back is pretty much only a sound mod. I figure for the same price I can get headers, which will give me noticeable power and have heard the stock cat-back flows pretty good. Does any one have a clip of stock cat-back and headers? I also want to talk to my dealer's service department first. Any feedback is appreciated.

I have listened to several sound clips for all the aftermarket cat backs systems and they sound just like the stock system, seems like a waist of $1200 to me. I like your idea of just going with headers.

Headers really won't change the sound on your Camaro. It will however make it louder. A muffler is what changes sound. Check out some sound clips here. Hopefully it will help.

We have done several header setups with leaving the stock Catback in place. The cars sound very nice after.

Thanks for the input everyone. I just went and talked to my dealer and they said they don't have a problem with headers and warranty work. If worst comes to worst I can swap the stock manifolds back on and bring it in. I'm planning on going down this road and adding the cat-back at a later time.

long tube headers do change the sound because they are changing the air flow. thats also why they increase horsepower and torque numbers. which is why we install them. :-p

Because of the stock muffler design, being a straight through perforated tube, you will not see a lot of flow gains over the stock mufflers, there is some to gain but not a lot. We do the muffler mod for a lot of gents, and cut the stock mufflers open clamp off the tube inside, and weld them back up, inexpensive, and adds some nice sound, and allows you to spend the money on long tubes which is where the power is at, and the fun factor.

Stainless works makes a great set up, which you mentioned, they fit very well and will certainly make your stock exhaust louder and more aggressive, (tastefully). You can search stainless works on youtube, and find many videos for reference. If you have any questions about pricing or fitment or comparable items.

Regards
