Same issue here...random, but common and a major PITA... Stations that have those huge recovery nozzles seem to be the worst..

Happens to me all the time, not a big deal I just have to stand by the fuel filler.

You should be attending your fuel in the first place
I dont want to hear no crying when the pressure sensor fails and you have 10 gallons of gas down the side of the car and all over the floor. It happens, quite often. I know many stations around here, you cant clip it to maintain flow while you go elsewhere, specifically to make the customer pay attention to what they are doing. Is it really that hard? Anyhow, I understand your gripe and yes it happens. Just stick a rag in the handle to hold it, thats what my father does

The only time I have this assue is on stations that have the FUME RECOVERY boots on them.....if they don't, I don't have a problem.

I can't believe your health and safety laws allow you to leave a pump running unattended. Over here, and the rest of Europe, the customer must have their hand on the trigger to get fuel out from start to finish. Is it really that hard?

never had a problem at any pump, but I've never been out of Florida...
maybe it's a location-specific thing (for example pumps in a certain state or city or county have to have a certain design). |

It might be 17. Im curious so one day i had my friend follow me with a gallon of gas in his car, mine was on E. Wanted to see how long it will go. I was able to make it 37 miles mixed highway and city. Thats why I assumed 18.

Here in NY we're too stupid to lock the trigger on the nozzle, so they are mandated to be removed, meaning we have to stand there to fill up anyway. I wonder if it's a coincidence that the gas cap fits perfectly in between the trigger and handle so you can pump while you clean your windshield. Probably a mandatory 10 year prison sentence here for that.

I've noticed I've had to hold it in on this car more than any other car I've driven - must be how the tank is designed? And to the people saying you shouldn't walk away from an active pump, I don't - I stand right next to it, I just don't want to crank my arm hold the nozzle at an angle while clutching the handle of the pump. Especially if the flow is super-slow, like the gas station nearest to my apt.

I have to agree with Archias and stray bullitt. In my 20 or so years of driving, I've always held onto the nozzle while filling. Only one time (out of curiosity) did I use the lock. I just don't trust that everything will work perfectly every time.
