BTW, you don't need to hold the key all the way to the right, just turn the key to crank and let go. The engine will crank on its own.
This is absoluetly the issue. Cobra is 100% correct. A friend of mine had the same issue on his '70.

Well here is another update; I can only tell you what they did. The reasons for it still is with the dealer/tech.
1. Battery replaced- they had a reading that should have been around 12-14 volts and it was only 8.9. I think it was for the ECM????
2. All the injectors- when being replaced they found a small amount of gas that had leaked out. I don't know where the leak was.

The car didn't act up the morning after for the 1st thru the 3rd test drive; they were thinking it was fixed. That afternoon another drive around the block said otherwise when they parked it and tried to restart it. The car started hard like it has been doing for the last two years, I will say the dealer is keeping me updated. The dealer is Hampton Chevrolet, Hampton VA.

Update----- GM is sending someone down to look into it. They still don't know what is going on. The dealer has done a good job with keeping me notified with everything that is going on. I have the car now and its still doing the same, I will know more sometime in the near future.

I know this is an old post, but I was curious if the cause of your problem was ever figured out and did they find a fix. My car does the same thing and would like to know what I'm looking at.

You beat me to it. This is the sign of a used battery. Same thing happened to my motorcycle until I replaced it. Once replaced no warm start problems, and the Harley gets REAL hot.

So, anyone out there with a year old factory battery and the car has a problem startig in extreme cold or hot engine, replace it with a good quality battery. If you park your car most the time you might consider a trickle charger. Modern car batteries expect to be charged on a very regular basis. If they are nothey degrade and die.

My Camaro has started exhibit the same behavior. Starts fine in the morning but after driving it takes a couple of tip starts to get it running again. My battery was replaced due to a key sticking issue. I live in AZ where it's averaging about 95 - 100+ degrees.

buelldude, did they ever determine what the cause is?

This used to be a classic GM issue. Usually happened at a fuel stop. But that was in the muscle car era of '62 to '75, and to be honest my 1970 GS never had the issue, with the 350 or the 455, before or after I built an engine. It seems some cars had it and some didn't.

It was a starter solenoid issue in many cases

I get back in the car and try to start it, it starts real hard (sometimes doesn't start at all). I will try to start it again (turn key all the way off) and she fires up?????? Does this sound or make any sense? If I wait sometime before starting it again it seems to be ok also.
So there you have it, I wanted to try here before I go to the dealer for a fix.
This has been going on for about a month, it just keeps getting harder and harder to start. I did put on a new exhaust but it was doing it before that was done.
I apologize for the starting issue you are currently experiencing. If you take the route of the dealership, please feel free to let us know the outcome. If you would like me to check your VIN for any applicable warranties, please provide me with your VIN.

Same issue here recently. Swapped out the plugs yesterday and in doing so I found a few that really needed to be changed. However this morning I had e same issue again. Short drive to the gas station to grab some coffee (less than 5 minutes). Got back in the car and car stumbles to start and dies. Crank it again and fires right up.

About half looked like this:

And the other half looked like is:

I just assumed this was the issue. Somehow this was not it. I'm confused.
