Lowering springs and drag racing?
Just was curious what effects lowering springs will have at the drag strip...

There are a couple things that come into play when using lowering springs on a car that sees the drag strip. The first is that the lowering springs lower the center of gravity of the car, now this is awesome if you are concerned about handling but for drag racing it is bad because it makes it harder for the car to transfer weight when launching. The other thing is that the rear lowering springs are stiffer than the factory rear springs which is good for drag racing because when the car does transfer weight that stiffer rear spring will keep pressure on the tire pushing it downward.

In for info on this as I'm looking to do bmr 1.4 this week
I'm sure it will help put the weight down more on the car which should allow it to hook better |

At the drag strip with 500 RWHP or less lowering coils don't really help or hurt performance. Over 500 with drag radial or slicks hard launches bring the rear suspension close to bottoming on the bump stops. Get into 700 and the Camaro bounces off thee rear stops, loading and unloading.
The first drag two drag strip modifications should be: #1 Sub-frame bushes or inserts #2 A rear alignment that sets rear camber as close to 0.00 as possible with the toe IN 0.10 to 0.15. |
