2010 Camaro SS vs Base Porsche 911?
I've lost a lot of sleep thinking about this over the last few nights. How would the Camaro SS do against a new face-lifted base 911 around a track?
Camaro SS- 422hp (6-speed manual) 911 Carrera- 345hp (6-speed manual) Well I'd figure that the SS would leave the 911 for dead on the straits considering it has about 80 more horsepower and about 100 more lb ft of torque. BUT when the straits over........ the 911's cornering abilities are impossible to match. BUT we all recently heard the SS would pull .97g on the skidpad. I just dont know what would happen |

I would predict the 911 on a track for sure. The Camaro SS for sure handles very well, and the fact that it can pull .97g is very impressive.
But after seeing the Cobalt SS Turbo only being two seconds slower than the SS on the "Gring" I'm not too confident about its track skills. Also doesn't the 911 weigh a good 500-700lbs less?

Weight is also an issue but I think the hp,tq, and handling will make up the difference.

I don't mean to be dark, and although I'd love to see our Camaro on top, I think the Porsche would have the win. If I'm wrong, I'll eat my words, happily This car has just too much mass, IMVHO, to defeat physics. Time will tell and I'll remain hungry

Alright, now the comparisons are getting a bit silly. I wouldn't be so sure about the Camaro "leaving the 911 for dead on the straights" considering that the base 6MT 911 does 0-60 in 4.7s (est), the base 911 w/PDK does it in 4.5s, and the base 911 w/PDK and Sports Chrono Package Plus does it in 4.3s; all on the way to a top speed of 180+mph. You're also talking about a much smaller, more purpose-built, car with a curb weight of just over 3,100 lbs., a far lower center of gravity, 10.5in. wide standard rear wheels, etc.
There's no doubt the Camaro's handling will be impressive, but some of you need to realize that peak lateral gs is not the be-all-and-end-all of a car's handling. In fact, it tells us very little about the car's handling. The Lotus Elise SC pulls .96g on the skidpad vs. the Camaros .97g. What does that tell us about how the cars actually handle? Absolutely nothing. |

The Camaro may be cheaper and easier to work on, but a track built Porsche 911 vs a $30 Sport Coupe, come on! |

for the price your going to pay for the 911, you might as well just get a camaro ss, and tune it up: reducing weight where it can be taken off and increasing horsepower.
The 911 is way over priced! |

I do 99% of my driving on the roads so that is the only place that I judge performance. I suspect the Camaro will be a very nice road car. The Porsche is fun, I have driven a couple of different models over the years but I would never buy one.

the thing to think about is how the hell can the camaro be so good that we are today comparing the camaro to the 911.

Guys as good as the camaro is going to be, it can't touch the Porche 911. Sorry just being realistic here. Pluss I have driven the Porsche 911 CS, and that is one kick ass ride.
