Great news! I am ok with the car the way it is but I agree change is good. I don't wanna argue with what is right or wrong in the SS vs Z28 debate but in my mind the SS should be the fastest but then again look at all the cars GM has put the SS badge on. So the Z28 would be more unique and therefore the top?? Just saying I will welcome either change that is made. I am just overall happy with the new camaro.

So, the 1st and 4th Generation both had the SS at the top of the line. Not sure what history you guys are reading though.
That analogy is so funny it's not even worth a comment. Headers and slicks...

Find me some reviews of stock 396 SS's vs stock Z/28s of the day.

You really think the Mustang interior is better? Wow, to each his own. That "thing" in the middle looks ridiculous and I don't think it's as comfortable.

If they wanted to dress up the black expanse of dash in front of the passenger without a total redesign, they could just emboss "Camaro" there. Is that where the airbag comes out or does it come out of the top?

It's called Google.......you can use it just as well as I can.

Car&Driver
1969 Camaro Z/28 0-60 in 6.7 seconds. 1/4 mile in 14.9 seconds.

1969 Camaro SS 396 0-60 in 5.9 seconds 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds.

That's just one example....

But, back on topic. It IS nice to see that development of the Camaro goes on. Hopefully it will get to the point where it can compete not only in speed but in fit/finish and interior materials.

Me too!
It's what gets me excited most when looking at this thing!
The custom white leather helps too!
My suspicion is that the change will make way for nav, maybe a power pass seat, and just tighten everything up a little in the edging and detail.

Any info on what motor the Z28 will be. With word of the LS3 going away makes me wonder if the Z28 will be a next gen motor.

This has been discussed numerous times, I won't even bother with which was the best (though in '69 I did buy a new Z/28). While the SS and Z/28 back then were designed for different purposes, the Z/28 was no slouch in the quarter mile. Based on what I saw with different Camaros in the Chevy high performance club I belonged to back then and my own experience, the Z/28 held it's own rather well. SS 396/325hp was no match for a Z/28, SS 396/350hp was a little better, SS 396/375hp was often a toss up depending on driver skills. Take any of the first gen. SS Camaros out to some curves and handling situations and all they saw was Z/28 tail lights. SS and Z/28 were different cars with different purposes in mind, you bought the one that you preferred. Which was the "top dog"? Depends on the purpose you have in mind.

I think the interior is fine the way it is, not to many bells and whistles. The only thing i can think of that they can add for next year's model would be a navigation system for directions to the next C5 fest.

I have no complaints with the interior either but a lot of people say it looks cheap and too plain. I'm sure, no matter what they do, they will improve on the current interior. If you love this one chances are you will love the new one as well. I think it will have more chrome trim and better materials to look more upscale as well as more style to the dash.

As far as SS vs. Z28, the top dog Vettes are the Z06 and ZR1. This IMO is why GM is making the Z28 the top dog Camaro. Also you know what they say. Any Chevy can be an SS, only a Camaro can be a Z28.

MY 2012 I think we will see a lot changed on the car. This new interior, the Z/28 and I bet they release the next generation DI V8's. That's why they are waiting on the Z/28, because it will be a high performance version of the new DI engines. Ford has released it's DI engines with impressive numbers and improved MPG's. GM can't be far behind. They already anounced the huge $ investment into retooling V8's. They will need to make the switch across the board (trucks,SUV,RWD cars) soon so they are in place for the stricter CAFE standards. It's like when they switched from the LT to the LS series.

I'm gonna enjoy my large displacement dinosaur engine for years to come. Max might say "Last of the big V8's!"

The thing I like about the interior is that it doesn't look like every other interior (with exception to the gauges). I like the bulky steering wheel and the shifter knob. Most of all when I get in it, it just feels right! I like the fact that GM is keeping up with what their customers are asking for. If they didn't listen to their customers we wouldn't have a 2010 Camaro now.
