Question USB Connectivity

Hi everybody! (Hi Dr. Nick!)

Can anyone tell me if the USB connection can be added to the stereo unit of the 1SS? And how about the bluetooth or steering wheel controls?

Thanks!

No they can not. All three of those require the Convenience and Connectivity package which is not an option on the 1SS.

Cripes! I was hoping to take it to a stereo shop and have them add the usb cable, but not sure what kind of connection ports are available on the back of the stereo deck.

Even with the CC package I don't understand how the unit reads the Thumb Drive as to how to format it for play.

You might be able to buy the parts from the dealer later to add them yourselves but the cost and work involved is unknown at this point. Reading the thumb drives, etc is pretty simple though, the stereo reads them like any computer would and indexes the mp3 files when the drive is plugged in. Decoding the mp3 files is fairly simple and has been a feature common to stereos for years it's just most commonly done with mp3's on CD.

TD?

MP3 or WMA on any USB mass storage device with (I'm assuming) FAT or FAT32 filesystem.

I saw a picture with a Thumb Drive sticking in the usb slot. Can't remember where I found it but they said it would play and control through the sterio and steering wheel.

I plan on using a couple 8GB USB Flash Drives loaded with mp3's... It's a beautiful thing.

F that IPOD, dude. I'm not a big fan of Apple computers, in my opinion, they're difficult to use/navigate. They're really so simplistic that it's hard to use if you know and you're used to all the Windows right-clicks, keystrokes, and shortcuts. And secondly, I'm not a fan of the format that Apple uses to encode music. Not that it sounds bad... it's just not universal.

Have you ever messed around with a car stereo that has a USB port?

My sister bought a Chevy Aveo and put in a CD player with mp3 playback and a USB port on the front. I grabbed my flash drive that had everything on it from .pdf files to .jpegs, and I copied one mp3 to it... Funkadelic - "Stuffs & Things".

I took it out to her car and plugged it right into the USB port. Took a second or two to be recognized... but it immediately found that one mp3 that I copied to the USB flash drive.

I'm going to do things to your stuff (stuffs and things and things and stuff)"

Depending on the ease of navigation...

I'm considering purchasing a separate external hard drive and just dumping multiple GB of MP3's on it (I've ripped every CD that I own) - connecting it to the USB, and the power supply that is supposed to be in the center console. I don't know if the power supply is in the form of a standard 120v jack, or the cigarette lighter type - but a trip to Radio Shack can fix that problem should it be that way.
