2014 Z/28 vs 2014 Boss 302S

So i saw an article about how Ford plans on continuing the Boss 302. but it will be a track only car. The Boss 302S MSRP is around 89-95k They also have a 302R for 135k. Neither are street legal, very limited (50 or so a year each). What i also didn't know is that these cars have been around since 2010 1 year before the production version.

So the question(s) are:

Is this the actual Z/28 competitor as far as performance?

What will happen when they both hit the track head to head?

Will there be "ragazine" comparo?

Will Ford punk out again like they did with the 1LE?

What will the excuse be this time if/when they lose?

Will GM put Z/28 parts in the performance catalog like Ford does the 302S/R?

These are very different cars. Neither 302S/R have any interior; they're built from bodies in white. Even with a full roll cage, they weigh less than 3,300 pounds. The 302R has a seam-welded body. Though they use a Boss 302 engine, the electronics are calibrated to run on high-octane fuel. That alone must given them another 30+ horsepower over the street Boss 302.

However, your point is valid. I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a 302S as a track-day car. I now have a provisional order in on the Z/28. I think that the power/torque advantage, brakes, and massive rubber might gain back a lot of what the car will lose to the Boss 302S because of weight. At certain tracks I think the Z/28 will be faster.

Frankly, I'd love it if Chevy built a track-only version. Strip the interior more, add a roll cage, and bump the power. Even without that, it's going to be a killer...

Production vs non-production!!! That really isnt a fair comparison but I think the z28 will hold it's own against a truly well built track car and be able to drive home when he's done.

The cars you reference are sanctioned as race cars and are not street legal, the Z28 is.

Will a magazine put a Boss 302 and a z28 heads up on a track? Maybe, but they don't need Ford's blessing to do it in any case.

Too many people on here worry about what Ford has in store or what might be coming in the future. Enjoy the fact that GM gave you a Z28 and quit worrying about one-upping the competition. It's unlikely that Ford is giving two craps about offering a direct competitor to the Z28 as they are focused on getting out the next gestation of their pony car and celebrating its 50th year of continuous production.
Uh yes the 302S and 302R were announced in 2009 and were available in 2010 as 2011 models. While there will be no "production" Boss 302 these two cars will continue to be made to order and sold as 2014 cars See Links above. And yes the rags need permission from the manufacturer to do testing and comparisons. And if the didnt why didn't motortrend just go get a Boss 302 to compare to the 1LE. Because Ford said hell no and gave them a GT track pack which, and I quote "GOT IT'S ASS KICKED" by the 1LE. Yes i know the 302S and 302R are not street legal but they are track cars as is the Z/28

Im not at all worried about what the competition is doing and one upping them i just want to see two BADASS cars (maybe 3 one day when mopar gets there head out of there ass) do what they are made to do and battle it out on the track, strip and street (and sales i guess).

This thread makes no sense. They ended production of the Boss both versions.

Your talking about race cars. So what are we going to do, start comparing the Z/28 to GT cars, how about formula one or maybe top fuel car, sprint cars?

I agree. Ford won't have an answer to the Z28 for at least another 2 years. Chevy came out swinging and set the definitive performance benchmark with the 1LE, Z28, and the ZL1. Kudos.

Sorry man, but a street car is not touching a purpose built race car running on full on slicks. The Z28 is an amazing car, but it's still a street legal car.

x2. If a 1LE can beat a Boss 302, the Z28 would decimate it. Ford is lucky they ended production of them in 2013, it would be a puppy kick on Z28's end.

Pretty much.

The Boss S and R are off road race cars, the Z28 will be street legal. Not exactly an apples to oranges comparison.

Ford doesn't have a current street legal car that can compete with the Z28 on a road course. The GT500 will beat the Z28 in acceleration but that's it. The 1LE gives the GT500 some issues on certain road courses, imagine what the Z28 will do.

From the sound of things, I would put money on this LS7 in this car will actually put out more power then the vette version! TriY headers and a cold air intake come factory and on the vette they dont, I bet the z28 is actually going to be faster then the Zl1 in a straight line also! Its going to destroy any street legal mustang thats for sure!

" It's going to destroy any street legal Mustang, that's for sure!"

All the C6 ZO6 Vetts that I have personally witnessed on a dyno have put down rwhp numbers in the 430hp range. If the Z-28 is around the same HP, that's a pretty bold statement for a 3820 lb. car.

YUP.
I will admit, maybe the Z wins in the road courses, but how many people here road course their cars. Ford has cars that will perform VERY WELL in a straight line, not so much road course. I'm thinking more people drag race their cars than auto-x them.

Sorry what I meant was all around performance! Meaning that it may not be the all out fastest in a straight line....its everything else it will excel at!
