My "gills" are peppered! Has anyone tried 3M Paint Defender?

My 1LE has 500 mile, and I've already installed rock guards, but the "Gills" are getting hammered from debris getting thrown by the huge front tires.

I was considering adding protection in front of the rear wheels.

Has anyone tried the 3M Pain Defender product?

There are multiple threads on this topic. I'm getting XPEL clear bra installed on the gill area/rockers and possibly the front fascia/side mirrors once I take delivery.

I have never seen that, it looks like a great product if it works good. You can spray the gill area. That is the worst area (prone to chips)

I've never understood why that area gets so many chips. Being that it is not right behind the wheel?!

Its because they stick out so much. I think its actually debris from the front wheels that gets hurled back and hits the gills. On my 45th, after only a about 100 miles I could see a bunch of tiny chips with a light. Then my 13 ZL1 I did not keep long enough to matter. Now the 14 ZL1 is in the garage and its staying so I'm debating about trying this stuff on the rock areas and using opticoat for the rest. Its looks easy to peel off so even if I have to do it every two years its cheap to do. Just wonder how thick it sprays on? How well will it protect? That is the question.

They have it on sale hear so I was thinking of picking up a bottle and trying some on my wife's SUV and if its good then I'll put it on the ZL1.

If anyone else has tried it, please chime in.

What about splash guards? I was thinking about installing ZL1 splash guards that look like they will keep the kicked up stones to a minimum and blend in well. http://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=2271

Can you say whats wrong with it? Just curious as its on sale here. Was thinking of picking up a bottle to try a test on my FJ Cruiser, then if its good enough I can use it on the Camaro.

Everyone says it goes on really opaque and uneven and looks terrible.

Thanks for the info. I do appreciate it. I think I'll hold off for a bit.
