Front Emblem Placement and Z/28

It looks like the front emblem placement on the 5th gens isn't a first for Camaros. This is an early production 1969 car probably for a GM insider that had both RS and Z/28 emblems on the grille. The car will be auctioned off during the Barret-Jackson auction this week in Vegas, Lot # 793. I'm not trying to start another Z/28 thread, but maybe a Z/28 emblem could grace the lower driverside corner of the grille on a 5th gen again?

P.S. That green wouldn't look to bad on a 5th gen either.

First off, I don't think that car is a real Z/28 and no '69 Z/28's ever came with the RS emblem in the grill. The Z/28 on the fender and in the grill are in incorrect places.

It was an early production car... the kind that would come out before the actual production run. It is apparently a very well documented car and that is how it came from the factory, even though as you stated the badges aren't correct for regular production cars. The car was briefly discussed tonight on SPEEDs Barret Jackson coverage. Check out the Barret Jackson webpage and watch their coverage on Saturday.

I concur. If memory serves, the hybrid Zs only telling factor was the hidden headlights. All the badges were Z/28. Oh and plus the front bumper is painted,... don't think that was factory either.

Oh and since I'm feeling frisky tonight,.... would anyone like to debate the '66 Camaro,....

I thought the first Camaro was '67. Was it produced in '66 and sold in '67. I used to drive my dad's '67 camaro convertable. Man, I miss that car!

Most of the badging is actually correct, except the RS emblem in the grille with the Z/28. The RS shouldn't be there. The front bumper is an enduro front bumper. It is a rubbery material that was painted body color. There weren't a lot Camaros that had this option. The GTOs around 69-72 had the option for an enduro front bumper too.

I believe the "endro" bumper was a special order item that took the place of the chrome bumper and was a plastic/fiberglass item.

On the RS emblem on the grille, I have seen this debate on several boards. I think it was someone at Rick's that owned the car and claimed to have a picture of the car sitting on the dealer's lot new with the RS emblem. I also think the experts concluded that the RS emblem was wrong. I have never seen an RS emblem on a Z/28. I have 2 '69 Z/28 RS' and both have the Z/28 emblem in the grille.

Unknown to a lot of people, GM actually produced a handful of '66 Camaros. Pure test mules they were, with very little creature comforts. The point was to drive around and see what the consumer's take was. Get this though,... the factory paint was purple w/ pink stripes. I wish I still had a photo to show, but this particular thread spanned several pages on nastyz28.com a few years back.

Got it. '67 was the first model year, but were sold in Sept of '66.
Can't wait, this will be my first Camaro!
