Meguiars m105 too much cut?

I have watched junkmans paint correction videos and he uses m105 but that el camino is really beat up! I have black 2010 ss with lots of swirls and light scratches. I have m101, meguiars swirl remover, and megs ultimate compound. I guess I shouldnt start out with m105?Of the three products listed, what should I try first? Will it hurt anything to just cut with 105, as I am going to do this right and then polish, wax and 2 bucket wash until I can't anymore, hopefully eliminating the need for future cutting!

Always start with the least aggressive method first. Sometimes you'll be surprised and that will take care of it.

I'd be very surprised if M101 was needed anywhere near your Camaro. That stuff is for very harsh paint.

I think you mean he uses M105, which he uses for getting the heavy scratches and swirls and then use the M205 to finish polish. If you have a heavily damaged area and you're using a PC, you should have no problems using the M105. If you're still confused about the process, go back and watch the videos over again, nothing wrong with that.

Yes, you are correct, I meant 105. Thanks guys. Also, if I use ultimate compound is the hex logic orange foam cutting pad too aggressive to apply it? Or should I use a white pad for the UC?

M205 would be a better place to start

I have 205 also. Is an orange cutting pad too aggressive or should i use white? And if I use 205 and it works, since that is a polish i can wax over that, correct?

I was told that the OTC Meguiars Ultimate compound is a little less aggressive than 105 and the Ultimate polish is a little less than 205. I used UC and UP on my black car because it was readily available. Didn't have a problem and it got the swirls out. Used the UC with a orange pad and UP with a white.

I'd HIGHLY suggest you get a good sealant to go on after you compound the car. That would also help protect against future swirls. There are many to choose from so do your homework. Several here like the opticoat 2.0 but i'm leaning towards the chemical guys jetseal 109 followed by their 5050 wax.

A polish is just a lesser degree of correction. Once you finish polishing, you need to either do a glaze, sealant, or wax. Most seem to skip the glaze and just do a wax or sealant and wax.

If you're using a DA, even M105 would take a loooong ass time to do any damage to your paint, but it's best to always start with the least aggressive method. Why do damage that you don't need to do?

No matter which products you have or purchase please take the time to do a test spot to get your process dialed in. Start as many have posted with the least aggressive product and pad combination in your arsenal and work your way up the scale until you are getting the desired correction you are looking for. No need to start with something like M101, M100 or M105 when the surface only needs a light correction that maybe M205 and a medium cut pad could do . Try different combinations to find what works on your particular cars surface. If what you are trying doesn't correct a sq ft test section then it's a waste of time to proceed on to the whole car. Just a old mans 2 cents.

I had a few light scratches, but no swirls. Started with the M205 and the orange hex logic pads, and it took care of all of it. As stated above, try with the less abrasive first, it's probaly all you'll need.
