We have used our GMPP on our Avalanche and it has paid for itself three times over with issues with the autoleveling suspension and a few other issues.

That is good to know. I just want to make sure that I am protected. I plan on keeping the car for a long time and even with the mods I do I will still have protection on the parts that are not affect by the mods. Plus the dealer can't deny you warranty without proving that the mod was the cause of the problem.
There was one time when my check engine light came on with a lean code and I went to the dealer up where I go to school. They took the car confirmed the code and said it looks like it might be the cold air intake and that did not want to mess with it. They then tried to charge me $60 just for them to read the code (which I already knew was a lean code). I ended up not having to pay it. But they also did not want to do any other test to prove their theory. Now if I did not know my warranty rights then I would have been stuck paying that. |

Just to add to my previous post.
My car is not heavily modded right now. But the dealer that I always go to is pretty cool with all that stuff. And of course the dealerships do not like to spread a lot of time on modded cars just to figure out the cause of a problem. Since my car only has a only couple bolt ons on it right now. If I run into a problem that the my dealer is trying to figure out they might ask me to put my stock air intake back on just to help them save time and money trying to eliminate the possible issue. Now if I did have more mods done then yes they would have to spend more time with the car. The important thing is to find a dealer that is willing to work with you and help you out. I dont mind doing the extra work to change out my air intake when the ask me too. Only because they do so much for me and because they are nice and I want to keep good relations with them. |

We bought the GMPP on our 2012 Corvette. We did not waste any money on the paint protection or the tire/wheel plans. If we plan to keep something past the factory warranty limit and the price is "right" then I like the warranty. There are a lot of choices with extended warranties and also other providers. I will say that working for a GM dealership for 23 years might make me a little bias =) Over the years I have sometimes declined the warranty and sometimes bought it. GMPP on our WS6 (back in the day) more then paid for it self.

It's an insurance policy and like any insurance we feel it's a rip off till we need it. I get the GMPP on all my vehicles.

Cost
I'll try to look it up, but I think I paid $1200 for 6 yrs/100,000 miles.

Fichtner Chevrolet in Billings MT pretty much sells them for cost. This is a quote I got a few months ago on my 2013 SS 1LE. The first number is the total months of warranty coverage including factory warranty, the second number is the total mileage, the third number is the deductible and the last number is the price. Its really flexible, if you don't drive the car alot but will keep it for a long time then pick an option that has a long time but lower mileage. I like the GMPP because there are no questions asked when you go to a dealer to get something fixed (other than mods). They look up your VIN and its in the system, just like the factory warranty.

Most engineering companies/farm designs and manufactures parts based on probability and statistics. Usually each companies have their own standard deviation, failure probabilities and so forth.
Unfortunately, we never know what will fail and when it will fail. Anything and everything can go wrong with any vehicle you own. It really comes down to what you want. Having a GMPP gives you an "insurance." However, GM (just like any other company) will do their best to make sure that they don't have to fix it and they can reject "warranty" based on what you have done to the vehicle. I will never get an extended warranty. I will either fix it myself or cough up money if the time comes. Some people who gets the extended warranty never end up using it. ... Also I am too lazy to read through the stupid "fine print." |

I am looking at one here for mine and for 10 years 160,000km bumper to bumper except regular wear items it is over $3200. If the warranty is never used they would give me $1000 back at the end or $2000 towards the warranty on a new vehicle. this would also include road side assistance and a rental car if the car has to stay in the shop over night. The warranty is fully transferable if I sell the car before the end of the warranty period as well

I have done GMPP warranties on quite a few of my vehicles. It gives me peace of mind that if there is an issue, I can take it in to a dealer and they will fix it. But then again, my cars werent modified, I left them stock. Not sure if you modding your car will work well with any ones extended warranty. If your into wrenching on your car, you most likely dont need the warranty. You can only get a GMPP if you are still in your 3yr/ 36000 bumper to bumper period.
