trunk opens on its own?
Hey guys,
I've noticed quite a few incidents in recent history of my trunk being open without me opening it (or noticing). One day I get home from work and the trunk is open, another while I am driving I get the message that my trunk is open. I dont freaking know whats happening, maybe I press the key fob button in my pocket? Has this happened to anyone else or am I loosing my marbles? lol thanks

I haven't opened my trunk on the Camaro yet, but I'd bet it's the remote in pocket. For my DD's I've set off the alarm multiple times, opened remote hatch, and had the remote starter start the car.
I thought someone was stealing my gas before I figured out I was starting the SUV accidentally. Lucky for us it's the car that's in the driveway and not the garage! I've got to the point I only keep my keys in my pocket when I have to. |

Most likely the key fob is being pressed... happens to me all the time, so now when I carry my keys in my pocket, I leave the Camaro fob hanging out the top... looks about as cool as the janotor's keyring, but at least I'm not popping the trunk.
Another possibility is that somebody ELSE is triggering it... maybe the same radio frequency that pops your trunk is the same as the one that Joe next door activates when he presses the garage door opener, of the DVD remote, or the CB radio in his truck. Or... have you checked to see if anybody is IN there, trying to get out?!? |

It's happened to me a few times too. I keep thinking I'm hitting the button in my pocket... don't know.

I don't know.....I assume it has to be my fault...
These sort of things are almost impossible to diagnose since it doesnt happen regularly. I just wanted to know if anyone else experiences this and apparently I am not alone... Makes me feel a little better, just gotta get used to always looking to see if its properly closed.

A sponsor sells a replacement fuse for the fuse box that makes it so you have to press the trunk button twice to open it. Can't remember which vendor though.

It's a shame that by default, the trunk can't be opened unless the alarm is off. That would have solved this problem.

Yes it can happen if you have several things ( other keys, pocket knife, ect) in your pocket with the Camaro key. If you would just carry it in a pocket alone I bet it won't happen again

Or possibly a sticky button on door or remote.

Had my Camaro for almost three years and I carry my key FOB in my front pocket. I have NEVER had the trunk open unless I intentionally hit the button to open it. Weird.
