Just a question

I ran into this problem yesterday, forgive me if it has already been discussed. What do you do when your battery dies on the Camaro and you dont have OnStar? How do you get into the car? the remote doesnt work, the manual key doesnt work. basically you cant get in your car at all. I called the dealer and they couldnt help either. Just want to know for future reference. I actually had Onstar and they had to unlock the car for me. But, a person who doesnt have onstar will be stuck in the middle of nowhere if the battery dies

You sure about that?

So, for those that store their car over the winter and they take the battery out.
If they lock the car, they can't get back in?

There has to be more to this story.

I keep my car garaged at work during the week. I was actually working at another location. My Boss moved my car in the morning, when he went to drive it back in, the battery was dead..he tried the remote, he tried the manual key and the doors would not unlock. This was verified by the dealer..if the battery dies you cant open the car.

you can either unlock the door with the key, or go in through the trunk. take your pick.

Like I said, the manual key will not work if the battery is dead. The remote wont work either so therefore, you cant open the trunk

OnStar can't work without power either.

Added some links that may help - it appears the blade key works in the door without power:

Straight from the manual

Only the driver door has a key
cylinder. Unlock the door from the
outside by turning the key
counterclockwise.
Lock all doors from the outside by
turning the key clockwise.

The door lock cylinder turns freely
when either the wrong key is used,
or the correct key is not fully
inserted. The free turning door lock
feature prevents the lock from being
forced open.
To reset the lock, turn it to the
vertical position with the correct key
fully inserted. Remove the key and
insert it again.
If this does not reset the lock, turn
the key half-way around in the
cylinder and repeat the reset
procedure.

I know how the key works...what you just wrote doesnt answer why you cant unlock the doors when the battery is dead

just to test it because i wasnt here when this happened, and to make sure my boss isnt incompetent. I just disconnected the battery and you can not unlock the doors...manually or remotely...the doors do have power locks so that might be the reason why ..or...my car, out of the thousands and thousands that were made, is the only camaro that this happens to
