Borla Catback or Axelback

I've had my 2SS LS3/M6 since October and I've finally decided on which exhaust I want to go with, well, mostly decided.

After lots of reading this forum since before I got my Camaro, I know I want a Borla Type S system, but I'm not sure if I should go with the full catback or just the axleback system. This is my DD so I want to keep my GM warranty, therefor i don't plan on doing any mods that require a tune, so I'll probably just do a CAI and this exhaust. What I want to know is what would I actually gain by doing the catback instead of just the axleback (besides a lighter wallet). I want a deep muscular sound, will the x-pipe give that deeper sound? I also dont want too much annoying drone since it is my DD, which will drone less?

Thanks in advance and Camaro5 is the best.

the borla catback with xpipe is the way to go it sounds great with a nice deep tone and improves hp & torque but it has drone.

both probably sound similar...you'll gain more hp/tq by doing the full cat-back.

I just got my car back from Borla. Got an axle back exhaust, sounds great!! Does not create alot of noise when cruising. Hope to post a video tommorrow if its not raining.

The catback sounds better and does not require hacking up the stock exhaust.

ahh, so with the catback i could go back to stock (if i end up with issues trying to get an inspection sticker. They're cracking down on loud exhausts here in Maine.)

Klatterblast, you say it drones, how bad? Just a little, or alot?

I have the Borla Stinger catback on my M6 (pic in avatar), and it does not drone. It's actually very quiet on the highway.

yes...the old system un-bolts....and the new ones go right on. Easy swap, no cutting.

PLUS, you're replacing the "hi-flow" factory pipes...look at these hi performance crimps...

If I have Corsa Cat back but want to change the sound. Will the Borla axle back bolt (clamp) right on the Corsa system? Does anyone know?

i have the L99 A6 so drone is more noticable when D.O.D. displacement on demand kicks in but if i run in 5th gear at say 70 mph it brings the rpm's up to 2000 and drone stops. m6 trans would not drone as much and i dont think you will have a problem with it being too loud its a mellow deep tone.

If your aren't going with headers in the future I would go catback as you will see greater gains with the x pipe. The sound is similar between the two, iv heard the catback has a "smoother" sound but that may just be personal pref. I went with the axelbacks for financial reasons and I plan on doing headers w/ xpipe down the road so anything I didn't gain with the AB's I would pick up with headers.
That said, after seeing those chokepoints, headers just moved up the list..

Getting rid of the front muffler makes the biggest difference. Sound, weight and performance. The interior resonance is pretty minimal. Every one has a sense of sound though. Some guys want it louder inside while others think our touring kit is too loud. It is tough to make every one happy
