A few questions for you ZL1 guys

I have a 2009 M6 vette w/ a few mods putting down 436 RWH. I am thinking of jumping ship and getting a ZL1. Questions I have are, have any of you guys switched from a vette and regretted it ? My biggest complaint about the vette is the real wheel hop !!! Tried everything and it's still there!! Do you guys get it with the ZL1 ? I have taken one out for a test drive and really liked it but you really don't get the feel for the car in one test drive. Thanks a lot for any advice.

I can tell you the rear axles in the ZL1 are designed to reduce-eliminate axle hop. One axle is smaller diameter and solid, while the other axle is larger diameter and hollow.
This was done intentionally in an attempt to prevent axle hop.

Longtime Vette guy here having owned 3 C6's. Last was a 2012 Grand Sport putting down 419 RWHP so I am right with you. I never had any whellhop but can tell you I test drove the ZL1 & drove one home that night! Always love the vettes & will have another one sometime but for right now I love my new Camaro.

I traded off a 2011 Grand sport on my ZL1 and do not miss it at all other than it was a little less likely to get me a ticket. This ZL1 is a beast. Do not hesitate. ZL1 handle almost as well stop better and accelerate like a locomotive. Torque is unreal.

I came from a 07 Z06 and I hear your on the wheel hop. I had an 08 Z51 as well it had wheel hop as well. I have never driven a C6 that did not so it is wierd to me when people say they don't have it. I have driven dozens and they all did it.

The ZL1 has a bit of wheel hop or shudder at times. It is easier to fix than the vett's from what I have been told. I am in the middle of getting rid of it. PFADT has some great videos that show the flex int he rear and how to eliminate it.

I added phadt trailing arms and toe arms on right now and still get just a touch nothing as bad as my vette though. I need teh subframe bushing next and I am hoping that is good enough and I don't need to add the diff bushings.

the fix that I have been told that really works is.

1. subframe bushings (can do solid ie phadt/adm or different durometer ie pedders or BMR) I am going to do solid most likely ADM.
2. trailing arms/ toe rods (I have phadt)
3. diff bushings (the issue with thses is that if you diff setup is off it will introduce some gear whine)

the only regret I had right out of the gate was I wanted to the car to just feel faster but coming for the LS7 vette I knew going into the purchase it might be that way. Stock it feels very composed and is more a low 12 second car. it mods fast an easy though add some boost, CAI and it gets right up and moves. simple bolt on's make it a low 11 second high 10 second car.

I really like the overall drive and handling. I feel it comunicates the limit better than the C6 platform and the ride qualtiy vs handling is honestly the best I have ever driven period. even in tour mode which is fairly comfy it will still handle pretty good.

I just traded my 2nd Z06 for my ZL1. This car is way more comfortable to ride in while in Tour mode. The seats hold me better in corners.

The only thing I will miss is the fuel economy.

The question is obviously gender neutral. So please let us folks know if you have something to add to the OP.

I get zero wheel hop in my Z, no worries there.

The ZL1 is a great machine, no doubt about that! I still have my 2006 Z06 and its a great machine too. I never had the wheel hop problem with my car. When I step on the tires easily spin before they grip, but the wheel hop was never a problem for me. With the Goodyear F1's it was hard to get traction in 1'st through 3rd gear.

Also, the 2006 Z06 did not have the magnetic ride control as the later models did, and the ZL1 is a very comfortable machine for crusing. I really like them both.

03 z06 415rwhp, 08 base c6 ECS supercharged 530rwhp, 07 z06 550rwhp cam only. Don't get me wrong I loved each one of these cars but for some reason I feel the ride quality in the zl1 can't be matched to any of them. Going back to the ECS guys next month for a little work to make up for the power difference. Not much wheel hop at all with the zl1, at least at stock HP. No regrets on my switch, especially since every car I have listed have been my daily drivers

ZL1 ride quality is so much better than a vette...and my two boys couldn't ride in a vette. I also wish the ZL1 was 400 pounds lighter.
