2012 2SS to 2013 1LE?

So, let's say you're a 2012 2SS owner starting to get your car ready for autocross and track season this summer and you just read the 1LE announcement. What would you do? Is the 1LE enough of an improvement to make the cost of outfitting a stock 2SS for the track worth a trade-in? How much money might you need to take a 2012 up to 1LE levels? I'm pretty intrigued by the new model and as someone that really wants to get in some track time the 1LE sounds nice, but is it worth upgrading from what I have? This is all theorycrafting of course

Arguably no because you'd take a huge hit in depreciation. The dealer might only offer you maybe $31-33K on your 2SS (maybe less considering you'd be trading it in when the 1LE comes out in the fall/winter when sports car resale value is really low) and the 1LE is probably going to be $45+K out the door. I think you can upgrade your 2SS for less than that difference.

Sell your '12 now while it has the most value and get a cheap car, then order the 1le.
If you try to duplicate the 1le's capabilities with your '12 you will spend much more than the depreciation for this yer.

Hi there, I would only consider it if your 2012 is really low mileage and you can get a good trade value. I think what you would have to do is trade in your 2012 BEFORE you get the 1LE. This way you could get more for your vehicle. The only thing is you would probably be out a vehicle for 6 months or so.

Try to sell privately. You'll get more for sure. I'm currently contemplating if I want to start dumping more money into my '10 SS or just sell it and order a '13 SS or ZL1...decision decisions

If you wanted to duplicate a 1LE, it would get pretty expensive. You would need sway bars, toe links, shocks, wheel bearings, wheels and tires, transmission and shifter, 3.91 gears, half shafts, transmission oil cooler, ZL1 fuel pick up, and electric power steering. However, you probably don't need all of those parts. You can pick and choose the parts that will help you the most, and just buy those.

I ordered a 2012 2SS the week before the 1LE was announced. Luckily I was able to cancel that order and wait for the 1LE. I probably wouldn't be happy if I had just bought a 2012 Camaro and then the 1LE was announced.
