2010 M6 SS vs 2011 392 CHALLENGER

Going to the track (1/8th) tomorrow in Buffalo, NY. My brother has been talking all winter long about his new 2011 challenger. I know the 392 has 470 horse but is a bit heavier. My 2010 camaro has the manual with a cold air inductions intake, hurst short throw and kooks complete exhaust with no tune. Also bmr toe rods and trailing arms. My brothers challenger is automatic and all stock so it should be a good run. I will update everyone tomorrow after we grudge run.

ps my camaro is going supercharged whipple style on the 23rd but I hope that I whip on my brother without it!

Should be a decent run. I was running 7.9's @ 90 in the 1/8th on decent air days.

Yea I should be alright. ha ha Its the opening day and none of our drag cars are ready so we are bringing out the street cars. I cant wait and hopefully I am on the good end after all of this trash talk. My dad has a L99 just with a cold air inductions intake. If the challenger spins my dad may have a chance lol.

Judging by how the autos launch most of the time, I would bet good money that the auto camaro would beat both of your cars in the 1/8 mile.

My brother in the 392 ran mostly 8.50s warm but when he let it cool down he ran a 8.17 and a 8.13 both around 1.88 60ft times. My camaro went best at 8.48 with 2.03 60ft. I could not get any traction launchin around 2500rpm. Once I get tires I assume I could compete but for now he wins round 1 of the the grudge racing.

If you launch around the second yellow you will turn better 60' times. Launching on the green is gonna kill you. But I think you know that. You could probably dial that 2.03 down to about a 1.8-1.7 and get him in the 1/8 easy.

what???? Your time doesn't start until your front tire breaks the beam... you could sit on green all day, it isn't going to change your elapsed time, just your reaction time....

get him easy???392's with the driver mod are capable of high 7's....just sayin

If you launch from a shallow stage you will be moving faster when your front tire breaks the beam. That translates to a (very) slightly faster et along with a faster reaction time. You know there is a reason why they record your reaction time as well...

Read my previous post sir. If you move faster past the lights, you will decrease the 60' time. However slightly.

To the OP. Better tires would be the easiest way to dramatically lower your 60' times. Also launching at higher rpm may actually help you as well. Again this is all rudimentary methods and you should know this already.

Dude, if you are leaving from a stop from the same position, it doesn't matter if you leave immediatly or in 10 minutes, it will not effect the elapsed. Reaction time is just how quickly you respond to the lights, it will not affect the elapsed time PERIOD.

I believe what coyotekiller is trying to say is if you stage more shallow, you can get your car moving more before you break the beams, causing a better elapsed time. Try it yourself next time you're at the track...stage as shallow as possible the first time and the next time deep stage (pull in far enough to turn the "pre stage" bulbs off) and see what the difference is. There's a guy at lake cumberland drag way that is running 6.80s in the 1/8 mile consistently and runs the 7.0 index class occasionally. When he runs the 7.0 class, he deep stages and it slows him down just enough so he can run a 7 second time without lifting before crossing the finish line. Hope that clears it up a little!
