Suspension on the zl1 is not really doing much at the drags, stock suspension SS will do just fine! If you want to run with a STOCK Z. headers, cam, tune , tires will get you there. Modded Zs will run low 11s with ease, so that's out of the question. A good running SS with a cam and tires will go 11s, from what I see at the tracks ZL1s are running low 12s and some mid 12s with bad drivers, but they do have 11s in them!
But your comparing a 60k car to a 35k car, mod up your SS and go play! I was just at the track with a ZL1, he had magnacharger, shortys, very small cam upgrade and Mickys. He was running 11.30s and I was right behind him with 11.7s and don't have near the money in my car. He did how ever finally clock off a 10.94!!! Lol, was a bad aZZ car!

My Z was 506 on the dyno at LPE, that plus suspension etc and the Z wins.

So post some slips on what that 500hp got you. Power means nothing if the setup is not right! My car just went 6 tenths faster switching from a m6 to a stalled th400! My car is only making 440 with the m6, and once I get a few bugs worked out I should see 11.5s at 118. It probably makes only 400hp though the auto now! The suspension in ment for road racing, add probably nothing to its 1/4 mile. Going off dyno numbers means nothing once your on track.

Stock zl1's having been running 12.9 to 13.2 at my local track, i'm sure that is a average driver. My modified SS is running 12.5's to 12.9 with both drag radials and the stock pzeros and I run the pzero on the 21's and drag radials on the 20's. I'm also a average driver. So it all comes down to the driver and track prep and so on...but on a road course I would agree with another poster...the Z would take it no problem.

Driver race 1 on last weeks top gear (USA) they ran the ZL1 at 12.92 1/4 mile at one of my local tracks . I know I could beat that with my ss
(yes I know thats a bad run for a ZL1)

Exactly. There are a handful of members on here that have hit 11.7 with their stock ZL1s and some have even said they are not pros by any means. Practice, practice, practice. I've seen stock M6 Z's dyno anywhere from 505-510. Good luck OP.

Peak HP and TQ numbers don's always tell the tail. AVG HP and AVG TQ numbers are better to look at. If you had an SS with the same rims/tires/suspension/weight/gearing/driver making a max of 580hp at the crank N/A VS a ZL1 with the exact same rims/tires/suspension/weight/gearing/driver making a max of 580hp at the crank supercharged. It's going to come down to when you are making all that power and in "most cases" your low/mid range will be better on a roots style supercharged car VS a stage 3 cammed N/A car. Now a VVT cam would be a little different. They make great power low, mid, and high.
Either way you should put down some good numbers at the track!! |

SS has a weight advantage of 1-200lbs..a cammed SS should be able to keep up especially with wheel/tire/stall. not sure how common heatsoak is on the Z but it could have an effect also at the strip.
