rattle from shifter area (A6)

Just wanted to put this out there in case anybody else is having the same issue. Under acceleration, most noticebly from 20-45 mph, I am hearing a small rattle from the shifter area. I can only describe it as a washer vibrating back and forth between a nut and a screw. Took it into the dealership today, they were able to hear the noise as well, but at this point are unable to find the issue. If someone else is having the same issue and happens to have a solution I would love to hear it.

Do you have automatic? I get a rattle also, and I don't know where its coming from. I happens when its about to shift, and I feel it shake under my foot. Is this normal?

^^ that's not the issue I am referring to. Really does not sound normal, especially the vibrating part.

I have a consistent rattle when driving in M and going over bumps. If I hold on to the shifter it doesn't happen. Is this the same behavior you are experiencing?

Don't know if it is the same for me or not. But when I first start the car, I don't hear it. But after the car warms up, I hear a very fant vibration when I am driving at low speeds. I can't place exactly where it is. At first I thought it was the A/C, but it continues when I turn it off.

I have something similar. I noticed it after I put on my Flowmasters. I assumed it is more noticeable due to the increased vibration from the exhaust, but maybe it's not related. It seems to happen when I am sitting at idle. If I hold the shifter (A6) it goes away. If I put it in neutral, it goes away. I wish somebody had a fix. Maybe the Hurst shifter would eliminate it?

I have the same problem, the rattle only occurs in M and not in D.

I am quite familiar with the shifter assembly on these cars and do not really see much that can rattle or vibrate. Perhaps it is something under the car echoing through or perhaps touching the shifter.

Any ideas on how to stop it? Maybe dynomat? I checked under my car and I could find nothing that appeared to be the culprit.

I got the same issue with my A6 but my makes more of a squeaking noise and its been driving me insane i hear it under the same conditions you described but my dealership says they cant hear it so im stuck trying to figure it out myself. im about to take my center console apart if i find anything obvious ill let you know... i thought the noise was coming from my passenger seat but i took her on some fresh asphalt (no bumps) and still i heard the noise...
