Question Thinking Ahead: SSX Wheels and other tire and rim alts for ZL1 during cooler months

While I know there will be countless threads on this in the next several months, I would like to start bringing up questions now.
It may be that other future ZL1 owners would like to see what is available as this writing as well. Since this thread will be broad in general I would like to try to keep the focus organized if possible by questions and possible work around's for this upcoming "issue." I call this an "issue" because if your ZL1 is going to be driven 12 months out of a year like many will be, then this is an issue that has to be looked at subjectively.

I too, will research this in the next few months and will post any of my findings back to this thread as I realize not much research has been done on this subject as far as ZL1 is concerned. Maybe the research that has been done on vettes and SS models have been done, and we can use some of that helpful information here and try to apply that given information to the ZL1.

OK. Like I said, I know this thread will be broad as there will be many questions I will not have thought of at the time of this writing, so I will start with things off the top of my head, then we can go from there and bring up more questions as we go. Fair nuff?

Ok.... WTD.... right?

The Scenario is this. We have a new car that we will be limited to cold weather use under temps below 40 degrees with its current factory GY F1 super car tires.
The second scenario also this even compounds the issue of NOT having a spare tire. So we are going from needing/ having 4 tires and to a possibility
to a total of 4 more tires and even a 5th tire for a spare making it a total of
9 tires!
That brings in the possibility of you do not like changing and mounting a second set of tires every 4-6 months of the year to buying not only as second set of tires as backup but also a second set of rims as well, for a possibility of 9 rims!

Also deeper pockets!

Ok that above is the issue as I see it.
Possible solution's that I can see.

I myself like the idea of having both sets of rim combos. Both the SSX black rims and the polished 5 spokes. My car will be shipped with the polished 5 spokes so it would be easier for me to order the SSX rims and a additional set of all weather or cold weather tires for winter months. And a spare tire/rim of some sort as I am not sure I want to keep a full size 5 spoke wheel in my truck for a spare. So I am still needing to see spare tire options.

I like my first option. 1. With that said, does anyone know the part numbers
for the SSX wheel, and is the rim available from GM parts yet?

I have looked at the american racing web site. They have the ZL1 listed as a model, but they do not have any wheels listed as of this writing for ZL1.

2. Is the wheel and bolt pattern for ZL1 the same as an SS model?
I assume that it is the same.

Chevy for eons on fbody up from the first gen, to I know the 4th gen
was 5 x 4 3/4.

3. I understand that the bolt pattern for the 5th gen has changed. What is the correct bolt pattern for YM 12 ZL1?

Also the simple possibility of swapping the F1 tires from the get go may be a good idea and deal with the issue this way instead of buying an extra set of rims. Simply change the F1 tire out for your fave choice of tire and be done with it. Problem solved. I would think this would be the cheapest route as I am sure there are many C5 members that would help out with this idea.

4. What are some good all weather tires suitable for the ZL1 in ALL driving conditions and not just track/summer tires?

5. What is the current market value for the F1 tire that is shipped with ZL1?

Let us hear some good ideas. Pass on anything you have with part numbers, pics, links to good tire deals, pricing, saftey, etc.

Try to keep the thread on track my discussing the above with ZL1 specific information. I do know think this thread needs to be in the tire section as this is something each and every future ZL1 owner more than likely will have to think on in time, either now.... or in the future...

I have been thinking about this very subject today. I have looked on tire rack and the all season/winter selection is very limited. Few choices for the front and none for the rear, if you keep the factory size. From my research, the front tire diameter is .5 inch smaller than the rear. My initial thinking is to run a 285/35-20 all around for winter. I don't think the half inch differance will affect the speedometer, traction control calibrations too much. The tire I'm looking at is this one.

Since I'm going to hate to change tires twice a year and run the risk of damaging the rim and TPMS sensors, I'll just have to pop for 4 additional front wheels. Going to be interesting to get the pricing from GM on then. $$$$$$$$

My thought is that all I need is a wheel package which would allow me to use the car on nice cold days. I won't take it out while there is snow on the ground or it is melting, If you know what I mean. These F1's are opening a can of worms for me. At least I have until next winter to think about this.

Exactly. Thats why I want to try and get it out of the way now especially if I have the funds to do so now, then wait until next cold season...
I want it to be a complete non issue when the time comes...
Just the way I roll....

Front: 22798741 MSRP: $1038 each
Rear: 22798743 MSRP: $1041 each

I believe those are the part numbers and I don't believe they are available yet, as I am looking to get some for my SS, but need to make sure they will fit the SS model first.

Either I will buy some from a ZL1 owner who goes aftermarket for wheels or else repros or just OEM from GM for more $

Good find on a winter tire. $500 bucks x 4 + rims + sensors + chance of mishandling! $2000 ++ Looks like you have the tire ID'd. Now we need some rims. It's just money. (ha)

This is a cross-post quote. Shnomac suggested taking a look at these in the other tire/temp thread. Seemed relevant.

They look like great cold weather tires, but I didn't see any 20" 305s.
